Hmm. This is an interesting question. In fantasy, absolutely. Of course it is really hot to think about. In real life though, I think about the logistics and real life complications too much.

First off, we're in our very early 20's, so we have some time before we want to start that. We do well financially, but still, it's not the ideal time. I always wonder if people actually do this, because it has the possibility of really fucking a young up.

I think the young's well being is largely determined by how the parents act. If Joe were to suddenly decide he doesn't like the idea of another man raising his young and want to be more involved, then yes it's easy to see how the young could end up hurt in the ordeal. Me permisterally would not want another man raising my young.

It just depends a lot on how the parents are -- if everybody is cool or blissfully ignorant, that's one thing. The flip side is a custody battle and a young who grows up confused about his parents being married in 2008/9 and him/her being born in 2010, etc., wondering how/why his or her dad is not the man their mom is married to.

For those who can pull it off successfully and raise their youngren in a healthy and stable environment, great (especially since it makes for fun reading on this site).

Yeah, I guess in mred4682's case, if you just don't tell the other guy, I guess there wouldn't be much of a problem.

If the situation was different, and it was possible that the young could find out, or the other guy could change his mind, etc. It could potentially be a problem in the long run.
