Need Place to Stay when visiting India

I will be going to India in January on business for a week maybe two, taking my wife (a holiday for her) and would like someone (male preferably to give protection) to be tour guide for wife while Im working. Also would like someone who can put us up at his place as hotels are quite expensive. I do not expect you to give up your bed for me I can relax on the floor or couch.
