"Mmmmm," Beth crooned as the ***** overcame her.

Beth was the last to awaken in the morning. Cleo and Deedee were up talking, when the doorbell rang. It was still early and they hadn't gotten ready for work yet.

At the door was James and the third of the parking lot characters.

"'Bout fuckin' time!" Deedee spat out at him, who looked really, properly chagrined.

"You get in here and I'll get her and you apologize!"

"Yes, ma'am!" he said.

"Thinkin' with your cock's gonna get you in trouble, boy!" she said, and he nodded.

She went upstairs and sat down on the bed next to Beth, who'd kicked the covers off and was stretched out, almost in a runner's pose, naked on the bed. Deedee couldn't resist the temptation. She ran a hand down Beth's back and caressed her ass cheeks, letting her hand move down and forward into Beth's pussy hair.

Beth looked up and gave Deedee a shy grin. "I over slept, I guess!"

"You needed it, sweet angel, but there's someone here that you have to see," Deedee said.

Beth struggled out of bed and put her arms around Deedee.

"First things first," Beth said, kissing Deedee.

Deedee pulled the lovely white woman to her and whispered:

"I love you, sweet Beth, just love you, love you."

Beth said then softly:

"It's him isn't it?"

"Yes, sweetie," Deedee answered. "He's got to do it and he knows it. Put a robe on."

Beth got a floor length robe and Deedee said:

"No, wear the white silk one. I want him to see how fine a woman he missed having any kind of relationship with."

Beth giggled and said: "Yes, ma'am."

They went downstairs and as soon as they entered the kitchen, the two boys stood.

"Okay," Deedee said, and the boy, chagrined in their presence, apologized for his actions.

"Now you listen," Deedee said, "If you even think of doing anything to get back at this woman, my woman!, I'll send someone for you to cut your cock off and bring it to me! I will, as heaven is my witness. Do you hear me?"

"Yes, ma'am," he said. "And thank you for the chance to set this right."

"Beth turn around," Deedee said then, and Beth did as she was told.

To the surprise of everyone, she reached out and raised the hem of Beth's robe. Beth squeaked, when she did it but Deedee went on fiercely:

"Now you get over her and you kneel and kiss her ass, right here in front of us and then you go."

"Yes, ma'am," he said and moved over to where Beth stood and Deedee had her naked ass exposed.

He knelt then and, leaning forward, planted a kiss on Beth's ass, and asked her forgiveness again. Then he and James left.

"Wow!" Beth said, grinning at Cleo and Deedee, when they were left alone. "Ha ha, I got to have my ass kissed this morning."

Deedee gave Cleo a significant look; Cleo nodded and Beth, looking on just squealed, as Cleo reached out to grab her.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry!" Beth began to stammer, while both Deedee and Cleo laughed at her.

"You first," Deedee said to Cleo, who unzipped her jeans and pulled them down, exposing her naked ass to Beth, who hastened to kiss it quickly.

Then Deedee, who was wearing running pants, pulled them down to her knees and exposed her ass to Beth also.

Beth kissed Deedee's ass, then she grabbed Deedee by the hips and began to run her tongue up and down along Deedee's ass crack.

"We've got work today, missy!" Deedee laughed.

"Am working, ma'am!" she crooned, and continued to lick at Deedee's ass crack, ******* more and more of her tongue inside the ass crack.

She used her hands then to pry Deedee's ass cheeks apart, and Deedee sighed and leaned against the kitchen table, while Beth now was running her tongue down inside of Deedee's ass crack.

Eventually, with Deedee sighing, Beth was licking at Deedee's ass hole, and poking it with her tongue.

"My, my, woman!" Deedee said, "You know how to do that!"

Then Beth turned Deedee around and reached for a moment over to the table and picked up a cup of hot coffee, ******** a large mouthful, and then re-applied her mouth, hot by now, to Deedee's pussy mound.

"Ohhhhhh!" hot mouth, Deedee said, pulling Beth's head into her pussy **********.

"If this is your work for today," Deedee said, "Then work."

Beth shook her head, 'yes' and continued her licking of Deedee's pussy, pushing, now and then, her tongue inside of the pussy lips to tease Deedee.

"Keep that up and you get an ass kicking!" Deedee said severely, Cleo laughed.

Beth looked up and shook her head 'yes' vigorously.

"Incorrigible!" Deedee said with a laugh.

Beth shook her head 'yes' again and darted her tongue in between the pussy lips again.

"Okay, missy, ass kicking tonight!" Deedee said severely.

Beth only shook her head 'yes' yet again and continued to dart her tongue in and out of the pussy. Deedee scowled at her and then Beth held her hands up in a peace gesture and pushed the tongue into Deedee's pussy and kept it there.

"Better, angel, better!" Deedee said, getting a smile from Beth, who continued to eat her lover.

"You two are a circus to watch!" Cleo said merrily.

Deedee was now grabbing Beth's head in a hard and steady clasp and moving her hips with every movement of Beth's tongue inside of her. She tensed and finally began to cum, holding Beth to her constantly, then she grabbed Beth by the shoulders and hauled her up, kissing her deeply.

"My Bethie," Deedee crooned, "My sweet Bethie!"

Beth smiled up at her and then Deedee said:

"Just time now, just time; you eat Cleo now, and then we have to get ready for work."

Beth went quickly to her hands and knees an started to crawl across the room toward Cleo.

Cleo smiled as she watched Beth begin that journey across the room and she looked up at Deedee, who was watching with obvious pleasure and said:

"Thank you, Deedee."

"You're welcome, girl! Beth and I still owe you a debt of gratitude."

"Cleo, Cleo, Cleo!" Beth sang out as she arrived at her knees.

She reached up and unbuckled Cleo's belt, and then unbuttoned her jeans.

"Cleo, Cleo's mine right now," Beth sang, in the same sing-song voice.

Cleo laughed and was joined in the laugh by Deedee. Cleo lifted her hips then to let Beth pull her jeans down and off. Next Beth busied herself with pulling Cleo's panties down and off. They were left around her ankles, and Beth lowered her head and grabbed the panties in her mouth to take them off of Cleo.

She came up with them, the gusset area of the panties in her mouth, and a grin on her face for both Deedee and Cleo to see.

"What have we done to this Beth?" Deedee wondered, and Beth gave her a smile.

"Turned her into this sprite, this lover, the woman with the velvet mouth and wonderful attitude. You and James should be awarded some kind of prize for this!" Deedee mused.

Meanwhile, Beth was already kissing her way up Cleo's thighs toward the goal of her black, curly haired pussy. Beth finally reached her goal and planted a few tongue kisses directly on Cleo's pussy mound.

"Oh, yes, this Beth has changed!" Cleo sang out then.

Beth took one of Cleo's knees and hauled it over her shoulder; then she took the other knee and hauled it over the other shoulder. She placed her hands beneath Cleo's ass cheeks and began to lick at her pussy slit, and knead her ass cheeks at the same time.

"Fuck, Deedee! You've been teaching this bitch wondrous things!" Cleo said, breathing hard.

"She does do that well, girl!" Doesn't she?"

Beth moved Cleo's thighs, which were resting on her shoulders, just a bit and planted a row of kisses on her ass crack.

"My, myyyyyy! Woman, you know, you just know!" Cleo sighed, as Beth went back to Cleo's vagina and pushed her tongue, this time, way inside.

Beth moved in, with her mouth opened wide, so that she could capture all of the pussy in her mouth. Then she went back to rummaging around inside of Cleo's vagina with her tongue, rolling it over the nub of Cleo's clit, and sending Cleo into rapturous spasms.

Deedee stepped behind Beth, as she was working so that Beth could feel the pressure of her pussy hair against her shoulders.

"Mmmmmmmm!" Beth moaned into Cleo's pussy.

It was too much by that point for Cleo, who came with barely suppressed groans, holding Beth's face in place.

Beth sat back on her heels, taking Cleo's thighs off of her shoulders, and grinned at both women, whom she had just served.

"Honey," Deedee said, "Let's clean up for work. We can grab something on the way."

"Yes, ma'am," Beth said.

"I've got to go too," Cleo said at that point, "I have school."

"School?" Deedee said a question on her face.

"Yes," Cleo said quietly, almost in a shy fashion, so unusual for her.

"I'm going to the community college to study for nursing."

"Weeeeeeee!" Beth exploded and grabbed Cleo in a hug.

Then it was Deedee's turn to hug Cleo.

"You let us know, girl,"Deedee said, "If you need help of any kind. You just let us know."

"Thank you, Deedee, both of you!" Cleo said, arranging herself again, and getting ready to leave.

When she'd gone, Beth folded herself into Deedee's arms.

"You certainly know how to make this girl's life exciting!" Beth said.

"Oh, Bethie, my Bethie," Deedee cooed, "If it were up to me, we'd lounge here for the day but work is work."

"Yes," Beth answered. "Work is work. But work or no work, I love you, Deedee!"

Life settled a bit for Deedee and Beth for months after this but they were important and exciting times. They went ahead with the move first of Deedee into Beth's house and then completely both the sale of the house and then the purchase of the new house.

It proved to be a source of joy for both of them. They needed new furniture; they decided to set up a computer room with new apple computers, where there were many giggle sessions as they surfed the internet and wandered into porn sites periodically. Their new home became a source of contentment and joy for the two of them.

Their further life was defined by two incidents that occurred to them, after they'd settled down both in the new home and the new jobs. Deedee and Beth became very popular at the State hospital. Their relationship was known to few if any people. They were careful and polite with each other at work, though there were certainly times, when business took Beth to Deedee's office and she would take the opportunity to strip naked for her and engage in her passion to east Deedee's pussy.

It was a Tuesday evening. They were cleaning up the dinner dishes. Beth had made for them a lasagna, which was sitting and still cooling on the sideboard, when the door bell rang.

Beth answered it and there, standing on the doorstep was Cleo in tears.

"Deedee!" Beth called, over her shoulder, gathering the weeping woman into her arms.

Deedee came in a hurry and, taking the scene in immediately, helped Beth bring Cleo into the living room.

They got her seated and Deedee asked:

"Girl,what is it?"

"Oh, I didn't know where to go;" Cleo wailed. "I lost my job. They're downsizing!"

"Oh dear!" Beth said, pulling Cleo toward her again.

"James?" Deedee asked.

"Gone!" Cleo said, "He and some friends have moved out west someplace. Just more trouble for him!"

"Now I have to quit school; I can finish this semester but that's about it. I'm sorry to bring my problems to you two but I didn't know where to go."

"Of course you were right to come to us," Beth said.

Deedee said immediately:

"She's right, girl! We're family here. We take care of each other."

"Have you eaten?" Beth wanted to know.

Cleo simply shook her head 'no'.

Beth got up immediately and said:

"Bring her to the kitchen, Deedee; she'll eat, we'll all have a glass of wine and we'll solve the problem."

Beth had gone on ahead into the kitchen, and by the time that Deedee and Cleo got there, she had a place set at the table, and three wine glasses set out also.

Cleo sat and began to calm down, as Beth served her some of the lasagna.

"Looks good!" Cleo said, and began to break down again.

"You two treat me so nice!" she said, the tears coming again.

"Of course we do," Beth said, "It's like Deedee said, 'we're family' here."

Beth looked at Deedee then who just nodded her head. They were apparently thinking the same thing. It was Deedee then who spoke for the two of them:

"Girl, you just don't worry about this loss of the job thing. We want you to concentrate on your studies. I'm still holding that job for you at State. Bethie and I will pay for the schooling."

Cleo's head came up suddenly and she had a shocked look on her face.

"But why?" she said quietly.

"Because we love you!" Beth said, standing and holding Cleo's head against her stomach, for now, with the reality of their offer, Cleo began to cry again.

"You cry, girl!" Deedee said, "Get this sadness out and we'll talk about what we need to do."

Cleo settled and began to eat again. She filled Deedee and Beth in on what the fees were and various costs.

"I can pay you back!" Cleo said.

"Nonsense!" Deedee said. "Pay us back! What do you think we are the first national Deedee and Beth? We just take care of our own."

"Of course we do!" Beth said.

They sat around, after Cleo had eaten and talked about it. Cleo told them, when Beth asked, that she lived in a dorm for nursing students at the school, and, also when Beth asked, said that she didn't need to be back that night.

"Can we have her stay with us tonight, Deedee?" Beth asked. "Please?"

Deedee moved to Beth and pulled her into a hug, saying:

"Of course, sweet angel; you're still the best of the best."

"Stay here tonight?" Cleo asked.

"Yes, all of us girls; a naked ***** party!" Deedee said and that got a laugh or a giggle from all of them.

Deedee and Beth set out then to take care of Cleo. They talked about the arrangements that had to be made for paying fees etc.

"Please let us know what you need," Beth said. "We'll take care of it, honey. The rest of your people may be gone but we're not! And we'll make sure that you get what you need, won't we, Deedee?"

"Sure will!" Deedee said.

"I'll finnish this clean up," Beth said then, "Why don't you two get comfortable?"

"We're comfortable!" Deedee said, "We'll help."

Deedee got a kind of a gleam in her eye then and just looked at Beth, who said a soft:

"Yes, ma'am."

"What?" Cleo asked, having missed it.

"She wants me to take my clothes off!" Beth said, giggling.

"Oh, nice!" Cleo said brightening.

Soon, Beth was at the sink washing up wearing only an apron and a pair of yellow panties.

"Still has one of the loveliest asses around for a white girl!" Deedee said with a grin, and Cleo agreed, the two of them laughed, as Beth blushed and said a 'thank you.'

Deedee then went to the sink and put her arms around Beth, who leaned back and turned her head for a kiss.

"I always seem to interrupt you guys during a sweet moment!" Cleo said.

Beth replied:

"Every moment with Deedee is a sweet moment."

"Even when I spank your ass?" Deedee asked, moving away and hitting Beth's panty covered ass har

"Especially when you spank my ass!" Beth said.

She'd moved away from the sink and bent over, presenting her ass to Deedee, as wiggling it. Then she laughed and headed for the door.

"Get her!" Deedee barked to Cleo.

Beth shouted: "No, Cleo, she's going to beat me! She's cruel! She's mean! She'll spank me!"

Cleo was laughing and grabbed Beth, pulling the apron from her and wrestling her back into the kitchen.

Deedee was standing there, and Beth looked totally chagrined.

"Am I cruel?" Deedee asked, plucking at Beth's nipple and twisting it.

"No, ma'am, you're never cruel!" Beth said.

"Am I mean?" Deedee asked, twisting the other nipple,

"No, ma'am, you're never mean!" Beth said.

"Okay," Deedee said, "Let her go."

Beth walked out of the kitchen and said over her shoulder:

"Only some of the time!"

She grinned and sprinted for the living room and family room area.

They caught her quickly enough and, while she was squealing her protests, Deedee and Cleo both spanked her, until Beth's ass was red.

When the spanking stopped, Cleo stood and grinned. Beth went to Deedee, putting her arms around her lover's neck and said softly:

"Honey, you know that I was kidding? You're neither mean nor cruel; you're my Deedee!"

"I know that, sweet angel," Deedee said.

"May I ask a favor?" Beth said in a quiet voice.

"Yes, love," Deedee said,"Name it, up to half my kingdom."

"Ohhhhh!" Beth sighed then said: "Can we have Cleo ***** with us tonight, just girl to girl to girl? She needs some comforting, and we're going to see that it all comes out right but why don't we do that. May we please?"

"You know that I won't deny you anything," Deedee said and kissed Beth, while Cleo looked on.

Then Beth and Deedee both spread their arms wide to invite Cleo to join them in the kissing and hugging.

Beth had tears in her eyes as she said: "Deedee, I love you so much; you fill my life like I never thought possible."

Deedee's response was to kiss Beth long and slowly.

When the kiss was done, Beth turned to Cleo and said:

"I love you too, honey; we're going to take care of all the problems. You just let us know what you need."

"That's awfully generous," Cleo said, tears in her eyes now.

"She means it, Cleo, honey," Deedee said. "We'll take care of the financial stuff; you just become a great nurse."

"Like you, I will," Cleo said.

"Bedtime," Beth said.

"Yes," Deedee answered, "School tomorrow and work. Shower now?"

"Three girl shower?" Beth asked.

"Three girl shower," Deedee confirmed.

"Oh, goody!" Cleo said.

"I'll just go finish the kitchen," Beth said, turning to go.

"No panties for you for being mouthy!" Deedee said with a smile.

Beth curtseyed and then slid her panties down and off, giving them to Deedee and turning around to display her ass.

"Another spanking coming?" Deedee asked mildly.

"No, ma'am," Beth said, "Working, cleaning up, finishing off, very busy, very contrite, very humble!" But as she got into the kitchen, she bent over and wiggled her ass again.

All three of them whooped and Beth hastened to finish the kitchen.

Later that night the three of them were in bed in the dark. They were tired, and they were naked. It was Beth that spoke up first:

"Cleo, honey, are you okay?"

Cleo began to talk, the darkness of the room helping her.

"It was so scary; I mean, I was finally getting on, instead of all the hanging around and stuff. Finally getting on and then James left, he'd been helping me out with the expenses, but I had the job, and then the job went away, and I saw it . . .saw it all slipping away, all slipping away."

The scene was almost ethereal. The moonlight was streaming in through the windows and Deedee watched, as Beth simply moved over and cradled Cleo's head at her breast.

Now Cleo was half talking half crying:

"It was so depressing, demoralizing. I still don't know what prompted me to come to you. You two are so lovely, so wonderful!"

"We told you to, baby," Deedee said, pressing herself against Cleo's back now.

And the scene, infused with romantic light as it was, wasn't erotic. It was a scene of simple gathering love.

"I know," Cleo continued, her sobs still interrupting her, "And I don't know how or when I can repay . . ."

Here Beth interrupted her:

"Deedee and I don't want to hear any talk of repaying! Do we, Deedee?"

"Got that right, girl!" Deedee said.

"You're family and we'll take care and help; it's that simple."

They were, of course, as good as their word. Cleo began to spend a good deal of her free time with Deedee and Beth. Deedee was a constant source of knowledge about nursing, as Cleo continued her studies, financed by Deedee and Beth. The three of them became fast friends and soon Cleo was on a good and positive track toward her career.

Deedee and Beth settled into a working life at State that they both enjoyed. They also quickly became very popular employees at the hospital. They conducted their lives so that they gave people the impression that they were good friends, not allowing their personal lives to ***** into their professional lives.

The next major bump in the road for them came quite suddenly and unexpectedly. It was a Wednesday. They had finished work, and on this day were traveling together. They had Deedee's car and were chatting, as they drove home, making dinner plans. Generally enjoying being together.

It had begun to rain, a summer rain that comes up quickly and is severe.

As Deedee drove down the street, Beth interrupted their conversation and said with some alarm:

"Deedee, look!"

There was a young girl, middle teen ager she looked like, who was in the rain, and limping along the sidewalk. She came to a bus shelter and sagged against the side of the shelter, going slowly almost to her knees.

Deedee stopped the car immediately.

Beth said: "You go, I'll get the car."

Deedee was off to where the girl was in an instant, while Beth properly parked the car.

The girl was almost ***********. So, without any discussion or delay, Beth and Deedee picked her up and carried her to the car, where Deedee got into the back seat with her.

"State!" Deedee said and Beth understood immediately.

Beth drove them back to the State hospital to the ER entrance and parked there, while she and Deedee hustled the young girl inside.

Deedee and Beth were well enough known by that time that they were greeted at the ER by people they knew and were shown into a room immediately.

Deedee stayed with her and Beth proceeded to do the necessary paper work. She simply listed herself as the source of payment for whatever the girl needed. Then she went back to the ER room.

The Er Doctor, Dr. Wayne, was just explaining to Deedee what tests were necessary on the girl, who by that time was ******* and being fed intravenously.

"Hi, Beth," Dr. Wayne said.

"Matt!" she replied.

Then he went on: "First of all, she's exhausted and malnourished. But I suspect something else is going on. I wouldn't be surprised to find that she's pregnant."

"Oh dear!" Beth said.

Deedee turned to Beth and said:

"She had a wallet; her name is Rene Sanchez."

"I'll find out about her right away; I'll be back!" Beth said.

"A good one, she is," Matt Wayne said.

"She certainly is!" Deedee answered.

Beth went to contact John Eltringham to find out what could be discovered about this Renee Sanchez, while Deedee continued to stay with the girl, who was still ********, it seemed peacefully.

In a little while, Beth came back. John had, as usual, done his magic and she had information.

"Well, this is what John found out for us," Beth said to Deedee; it was only the two of them in the room at that point.

"She lived with a *********** who died only a while ago, and was poor enough to not leave much for the girl. There was some kind of fire that took whatever was left in the ***********'s place, which was only rented.

There seems to have been a boy in her life but he is also long gone. Since the recent death of the ***********, the girl has seemingly been on her own with no one to care for her."

"Oh dear!" Deedee said, as Beth finished the tale of information.

'What's to be done?" Beth asked.

"Well, first we wait until she has had enough *****; they're feeding her intravenously, and she's young and looks fairly sturdy, so she should be alright."

"And she's pregnant!" said Dr. Wayne from the doorway.

"What?" Beth asked, surprised.

"Yep, 'with ******', as the scriptures say," He put in.

"Oh dear!" Beth said then, in somewhat dismay.

"We'll wait to talk to her," Deedee said, "Until she's awake and better; but she might just ***** for a while."

"Why don't I go out and fetch us some dinner?" Beth said.

"Good thought, angel," Deedee said, then said: "Oops! Sorry!"

"You never need to be sorry for calling me pet names, love!" Beth said.

"I know, honey," Deedee said, "But we're normally careful at work."

"Then, Ms McWilliams," Beth said in a formal voice but with a grin on her face, "I'll go and fetch some food. Any 'druthers'?"

"No, you know what I like; just bring piles of that," was Deedee's answer.

Beth went out and came back in about 45 minutes, bringing dinner for the two of them. They sat companionably and ate, talking with one another, as the evening went on.

It was as they were thus talking softly with each other that Beth happened to notice that the girl's eyes were open and that she was watching them.

"Hi!' Beth said, startling Deedee, who looked at the girl and smiled.

"You brought me here?" she asked in a soft voice.

"Yes, Beth said, "Deedee and I did."

"Thank you so kindly," the girl said. "I was . . .I was, I think losing strength."

"Well, you're fine now," Deedee said. Then she said:

"This is Beth Swinton, and I'm Deedee McWilliams."

"Hi, Beth Swinton, Deedee McWilliams," she said, "I'm Renee, Renee Sanchez."

"Yes," Beth said, "We looked into your wallet to find your name."

Renee gave a short laugh, "Nothing else but my name there in my wallet."

Beth then took over the conversation, trying to find out basic information, while Renee looked at them closely.

"Do you have family around here, honey?" Beth asked.

"I'm afraid not," Renee said. "Gram was all that was left, and . . .and she's gone."

She said this with a bit of a sob and Deedee handed her a tissue, which she took gratefully.

"No family near, hmmm," said Beth, "How about in other places?"

"Not that I know of,"Renee said.

Then Beth's voice softened and she asked:

"Honey, do you know that you're going to have a baby?"

"Yes," Renee sighed. "I thought it was good news but as soon as I told Andre about it, he took off and wasn't seen or heard of again."

Here she began to cry.

Beth was up on the bed with her in a flash, folding the sobbing girl into her arms and holding and rocking her.

"You feel so much like gran!" Renee said with a soft voice.

"Thank you," Beth said, and saw Deedee smiling at her, and mouthing the words:

"I love you!"

Beth blinked at her to say a silent 'thank you'.

Renee calmed down and said, as though to divert the topic from the issue of her pregnancy:

"You two are a strange couple!"

"What?" Deedee said.

Beth snorted.

"Well, look at you two, it's so obvious that you love each other, the way you look at one another but one is a gorgeous chocolate brown and the other an almost startling white. You must look beautiful together."

Both Deedee and Beth were astonished by what the girl had to say for a few seconds and then Deedee said:

"We do, honey, we do look beautiful together; it's because my Beth is such a beautiful woman."

"And she's a goddess!" Beth sighed.

Renee gave an appreciative laugh, and then Beth cut in:

"But as fascinating as Deedee and I are, we need to talk to you about you and what your plans are."

"I'm here now," Renee said, "And don't have plans beyond that for the time. People go away when you have plans!"

"They certainly seem to," Beth said.

"Yes," Renee answered.

"Well," Deedee put in then, "I've spoken to the doctor and we'll keep you here for a day or maybe two to build you up a bit. Feed you, give you some strength."

"Charity case?" Renee said with some asperity.

"No," Deedee replied, "Beth and I have already said that we'll pay your hospital bills."

"Ohhh," Renee said, and she began to weep, and as she did, she reached out for Beth again, who had the girl in her arms once again.

"It seems that you almost never meet the good ones," Renee said, "And here I am having had the good fortune, good manners, or sense to collapse in the presence of two genuine ones. I'm sorry but it makes me cry."

"You cry, honey," Beth said, "You just cry."

The two of them let Renee cry for a little bit. Then Beth broke in and said:

"Look, honey, Deedee and I have already eaten, can we get something for you?"

"I mean, I can go out for something, if you wish, the kitchen here is already closed."

"I am hungry!" Renee said.

"Good," Beth said then, "What do you want?"

Renee made a wish for a meatball sandwich, her favorite. So, Beth left them in order to go to a SubWay for a meatball sub.

"She's so good," Renee said, when Beth was gone.

Deedee sighed, "Don't I know it!"

"Lovers?" Renee asked, and then said: "Sorry, nosy here!"

"Fine, honey," Deedee said, "You are a very wise young woman. Yes, we're lovers! It's been a glorious past four months or so for us."

"You look very content," Renee said.

Then Deedee asked:

"Honey, what about the baby?"

"Oh, I want the baby," Renee said, "I'll do whatever I have to take care of her; I will, I'm determined about that."

"How old are you?" Deedee asked next.

"I'm just now 16," Renee said. "And I can make my way; I just know it."

"I don't doubt it, girl!" Deedee said with a smile. "We'll make sure that one of the Ob Gyn doctors sees you tomorrow; if you want to keep 'her', you'd best begin to do some good doctoring."

"Yes, thank you," Renee said, "You're right."

"Are you tired?" Deedee wanted to know.

"Yes, some," Renee said, "But just hungry. I think that I'll ***** for a week, once I have some food."

"She'll be here soon," Deedee assured the tired girl, "It's not far away."

"Live together?" Renee asked.

"Yes," Deedee said simply and with a smile.

"I thought," Renee answered, "You feel so good together."

"Yes, we are!" Deedee said with a simply smile. "My Bethie is a treat."

"She certainly seems to be," Renee said. Then she had a thought and asked:

"Work here?"

"Yes, both of us!" Deedee answered. "Beth is an administrator."

"Oops, indiscrete me!" Renee said.

Deedee laughed: "Don't worry about it; it's fine."

"I'll keep it under my hat!" Renee said with a conspiratorial smile.

"How did you guess all this?" Deedee asked.

"Oh, I kind of read people; and you two just read as a unit, is all."

"We are that," Deedee said.

And just as she said this, Beth came into the room with a big bag.

She brought the meatball sub for Renee, and a shake. She also brought a shake for herself and one for Deedee.

Deedee thanked her with a kiss, as she gave her the chocolate shake.

Beth cast a quick glance at Renee who winked at her.

"She knows," Deedee said, "She might be 16 but she's going on 35!"

"She knows?" Beth asked.

"Yes," Deedee said, "That I love you like life itself!"

"Deedee, I'm going to be the next one to cry at this point!" Beth said.

She sat down then and Deedee and Renee brought her up to date on what was happening.

"The Ob Gyn exam tomorrow?" Beth asked.

"Yes," Deedee said.

Then Beth put her hand on top of Renee's and said:

"Honey, one of us is going to stay with you. So, whenever you wake, one of us will be here. No one's going anywhere or leaving you."

Once again Renee sobbed:

"I just knew that you two were the good ones; I knew it."

Beth hugged Renee and Deedee joined in the hug.

"Bonding?" a voice said from the doorway.

It was Dr Wayne.

"Yes, Matt," Deedee said, making a friend here.

"Good for you," was his answer. Then he spoke to Renee:

"We're going to keep you tonight and one more day, over night. Fatten you up a bit. I also will have Dr Elaine Wilson an Ob Gyn specialist look in on you tomorrow. Get you on track with that baby."

"Thank you, doctor!" Renee said softly.

"Well, I see that you've eaten. I'd like you to get some rest. I'm going to have them transfer you to a private room. They'll be coming for you in a few minutes."

"Thank you again!" Renee said.

"Private room?" she said then in wonder.

"We intend to take care of you!" Beth said.

"Why?" Renee said out loud then.

"Because we're the good guys!" Deedee said with a grin, and they shared a laugh, as Renee said:

"I guess you are."

They came for her shortly after that, and took her to a private room on a patient floor.

The nurse came in to see her shortly after that but said right away:

"Oh, Ms McWilliams, I didn't know that you were attending her, sorry."

"No, Jane," Deedee said, "I'm just a friend here, and am not going to poach on your patients, much!"

Jane grinned at her and nodded and went away.

"Wow!" Renee said.

"Big stuff around here," Beth said pointing to Deedee with her thumbs.

Deedee grinned.

Beth turned to Deedee and said:

"I don't have to come in early tomorrow; you do. Why don't you go home and get a good night's *****. I'm going to stay."

"Thanks," Deedee said, "I will. I'll be back after I get some *****."

"Fine," Beth said, then she glanced at the door.

"Close the door for a moment," Renee said.

"See?" Deedee said, "I told you; she wise this one."

Deedee closed the door and Renee watched as Deedee enfolded Beth in her arms for a kiss.

"Wow!" Renee said. "That's what it's about!"

"What's that?" Beth asked.

"Love!" Renee said, "That's what it's about!"

"It is!"' Deedee said.

She went over to the bed and said, "The nurses up here are the very best; they'll take good care of you."

"If you're in charge," Renee said from the hug that Deedee was giving her, "Then they must be."

She gave Beth another quick kiss and she was gone.

"I think that you should *****," Beth said to Renee.

"I don't want to be rude," Renee said.

"It's not rude," Beth assured the girl, "You need your rest for you and for her."

At that point Renee did snuggle down in the bed, put off the light and she went to *****. Beth was tired and she pulled out a lounge chair for herself and stretched out in it. She made sure that it was in a position where Renee could see her, if she woke.

During the night, at one point, Beth woke to hear Renee calling softly:

"Gran? Gran?"

Beth went to her immediately, and held her. The girl was shaking and only slowly woke a bit.

"Oh," she said, "Yes, you're here, here!"

"Yes," Beth said, "Haven't gone anywhere."

Beth held the girl until she realized that she'd fallen a***** again.

At about 5 AM, Deedee came in. She had coffee for both of them. Renee slept soundly, as Beth and Deedee stood in the doorway.

"We need to let her stay with us!" Deedee said. "Don't you think so?"

"Oh, yes," Beth said, "A lovely idea, lovely idea but you're such a lovely person, my Deedee!"

"I love you too, sweet angel!"

They decided on the idea and also decided that they'd talk to Renee about it in the morning. At that point, Beth went home to shower and get ready for her day at work while Deedee stayed with Renee.

The girl did awaken again but without the same amount of agitation, and discovered Deedee there, sitting peacefully and smiling at her. She gave Deedee a return smile, a shy one, and then an air kiss, before she fell a***** again.

It made Deedee tingle.

Beth was back in the morning ready for work; she got there just in time, since Deedee had to go to work herself. Renee seemed to be in good spirits. Deedee told her what her day would consist of, the tests she would have etc.

Beth stayed with her just a bit, while Renee had her breakfast. She ate with a good appetite.

When she was finished, and was finishing a glass of juice she said to Beth in a shy voice:

"I really appreciate this; I mean the way that the two of you have taken care of me."

Beth smiled: "We have love to spare!"

"Well," Rene said, "I'm the lucky one, having received some of that love."

Then Beth went on:

"So, you know about your day. Here's my in house number. I'm not far away, and I'll have time."

"Well, from what Deedee says, you're part of the group that runs this place, so I can't imagine that you'll have that much time."

Beth laughed: "But we run it so well, that we can goof off whenever we like!"

Renee giggled at that, and held her arms out for a hug.

Beth went into her arms and hugged her and kissed her cheek.

Renee whispered: "Thank you for being here with me, when I got the chills and all about gran during the night."

"All part of the service," Beth quipped.

"More like part of all that love," Renee said.

"Found us out," Beth said softly.

"I can't say 'thank you' in any adequate way," Renee said.

"Yes, you can," Beth said, "Take care of the baby."

"That I intend to do," Renee said.

"Hey," Beth said then, "They'll be in here soon for you, and I have to check in at my department to make sure the hospital isn't falling apart. I'll be back, honey."

"Thank you, Momma," Renee said, and blushed furiously, when she said it.

"Oh," Beth sighed, "You're going to make me cry now!"

She hugged Renee again before she left.

"Did you mind? Do you mind?" Renee said, in a little girl voice.

"Not at all," Beth said, kissing her one more time before leaving.

She left then and stopped by Deedee's office on the way to her own.

"Hey, girl!" Deedee said, and noticed immediately that Beth had tears in her eyes.

"What is it?" Deedee said, getting up from her desk.

"She called me 'Momma'," Beth said.

"She did?" Deedee asked. "But of course, you are that! She's so lovely, and genuine!"

"Yes, she is," Beth said. She hesitated and then began to ask:

"Deedee, can we . . ."

But Deedee interrupted her and said: "Yes, we can; and we should. She's got no one but now she's got us."

"Oh, Deedee," Beth said, "May I? May I hug?"

Deedee spread her arms out and took Beth into them.

"We need to talk to her, love, about all of this," Deedee said.

"Yes, and maybe John Eltringham too," Beth said.

"Good idea," Deedee answered.

"I have to go to work now," Beth said, "I hate to leave you."

"I know," Deedee answered. "How about at lunch? I mean we'll take some lunch up to her and talk to her about it."

"Good idea," Beth said, leaving Deedee to go to her own office.

Beth got to Renee's room first and found her sobbing with tears on her cheeks.

"Renee, honey," Beth said, hurrying to the bed, and setting a bag of sandwiches down on the tray, "What's wrong, what is it?"

"Ohhhhhh," Renee wailed into Beth's shoulder, as Beth held her.

It was then that Deedee came into the room. She noticed the commotion and immediately spoke to a nurse in the hall to give them some time, and shut the door. She went quickly to the other side of the bed and joined in the hug.

"Oh, I feel so good, so secure, when you two are here," Renee said.

"Then what is it?" Beth said softly.

"I'm scared," Renee said.

"Tell," Deedee said to her, kissing her cheek.

"I'm feeling better," Renee said, "I mean yesterday, you know, when I was out in the rain, I knew I was going to die and was so sorry for the baby; I knew about the baby but there were no chances."

She was interrupted at this point by a seizure of sobbing.

Beth kissed her cheek and said: "Take your time, love; just tell me and Deedee.

"Then you came along, my angels, and here I am, fed, and rested and feeling fine and tomorrow morning they'll let me out and I don't know what to do!"

Beth didn't hesitate:

"You'll come and live with me and Deedee of course," Beth said.

Renee's head shot up and she stared at Deedee and then at Beth and said, in the softest voice imaginable:

"Mean it?"

Beth had tears in her eyes as she said:

"Now, Renee, would Momma lie to you?"

"Momma, oh, Momma," Renee cooed and kiss Beth, then she reached over and kissed Deedee next.

"I can't believe your goodness," she said, as she lay back against the pillow. "And you're really going to let me come and live with you?" She was close to tears by the end of the question.

"Absolutely!" Deedee said with a smile. Then she continued, after kissing Renee's cheek:

"We have a new house, Beth and I; it's a big house and you will help us fill it just very nicely."

"Ohhhhh," Renee said.

"I'm going to talk to my lawyer, Mr Eltringham, and see about making our relationship legal."

"Legal?" Renee asked.

"So we'll legally be your Mommas," Beth answered.

"How cool is it," Renee began, "That I get to have two Mommas, and two grandmas for my little girl!"

At this point both Beth and Deedee hooted at the thought of them being 'grandmas'.

"On that note," Beth said, "I think that we should eat. I brought us sandwiches again. There'll be time enough for hospital food but for today we celebrate with meatball subs for everyone!"

"Goodie," Renee said, "I like meatball subs!"

Deedee opened the door then, and the three of them sat and ate their lunches companionably.

"There are a few things, honey," Beth said, after they'd finished their sandwiches.

"Yes," Deedee went on, "We're going to have you get regular check ups with Dr. Wilson; we want the best for our grandchild."

"I'll be a ********, I'm sure of it," Renee said with a smile.

"And we'll need to do some home schooling with you, to keep within the law," Beth said.

Renee nodded her acceptance of the necessity of that.

"But we need to take some time as soon as possible to go out to buy you bedroom furniture, clothes and those sorts of things."

Renee looked shocked, as though Beth had lapsed into a foreign language with her.

"Shopping?" she said with wonder.

"Shopping," Deedee said with a grin. "It's what we do best!"

Renee giggled happily: "You'll have to teach me!" she said.

"We can certainly do that!" Beth said, and then Renee broke down again:

"I'm sorry," she said, as she cried, "I'm very emotional about this; you saved my life and now . . .and now you're giving me and my baby a life! Those kinds of things haven't happened. Gran would be so thankful to you two, so happy."

Then she cried, and Beth rocked her a bit, as Renee clung to her.

Deedee spoke up then and said:

"Look, crew, I have to go back to work; I think that we can get them to release you tonight into our care."

"Tonight! Really!?" Renee almost exploded.

"Tonight!" Deedee said, "I'll take care of it."

"I have to go to work too, honey," Beth said.

"But we're both taking tomorrow off; we'll see how you feel and decide if you're going to be up to a shopping trip or not."

"Oh that is exciting to look forward to," Renee said.

"Then keep that thought in mind," Beth answered.

They turned to leave the room together but Renee said, tears in her eyes again:

"Momma Beth, Momma Deedee, I love you!"

They went back for another three person hug, with Beth speaking for them:

"We love you too, honey!"

"Dr. Wilson will be in soon to see you," Deedee said. "She's excellent; she'll help you every step of the way through the pregnancy."

Elaine Wilson was just at the door, as Beth and Deedee were leaving. They took a few minutes to talk to her about the situation: where they'd found her, her condition, when they found her etc. Then they left to go back to work.

During the afternoon, Deedee called Beth in her office and said that Renee would be released to them that afternoon, and she'd be ready as soon as they were finished with work at 3 PM. The adventure was beginning.

The picked her up, when they were finished with work and loaded her into Deedee's car. Then Deedee waited for Beth to fetch her car and follow them. Renee just sat in the car and smiled, as they waited for Beth.

"Lovely car," Renee said.

"Thanks, girl!" Deedee said familiarly, "It's new."

"Really?" Renee said, and Deedee nodded, "Cool!" was Renee's next comment.

Then they saw Beth coming out of the parking lot, and Deedee led the way home.

When Deedee finally went up the street and signaled to pull into the drive way, Renee asked, with a gasp:

"Here?"

"Here!" Deedee said.

"Are you rich?" Renee asked, and immediately said: "Oh, I'm sorry; at times I forget my manners."

Deedee laughed and said: "We'll wait to talk, until we're with Beth. Then you get to ask all your questions."

Deedee and Renee went into the house first, and Renee just stood and stared around at the lovely house. The startled look never left her face.

Then Beth came in from the direction of the garage. The first thing that she did, before even greeting Renee was to give Deedee a kiss and a hug. The kiss was a real one and Renee just looked on, again with wonder.

Deedee spoke then:

"Renee has some questions."

"Glass of wine first?" Beth asked.

"Glass of wine, sweet angel," Deedee said.

Beth turned to Renee and asked: "Coke? Pepsi?"

"Coke, lovely," Renee said, and Beth padded off to the kitchen to get the ******.

She came back with them and the three of them settled into the living room. Renee looked around again in wonder.

"Welcome to our home," Beth said and they raised their glasses.

"Your home is lovely!" Renee said.

"No, no," Deedee interrupted the girl, "Beth said 'our', not 'your'."

"Ohhhh," Renee said, tears forming again. She spoke up quickly with a short laugh:

"It''s as though someone has to pinch me and help me wake up; I can hardly believe that you said 'our' and that's what you meant."

"That is!" Deedee said, grinning. "So, questions. Beth, angel," Deedee said next, "Renee asked if we're rich?"

Beth got a soft smile on her face and said: "Yes, we are; not very rich but still rich. Deedee and I are, and now all three of us are!"

"Wow!" Renee said.

"Other questions?" Deedee asked.

"Well," Renee said: "So, the two of you are, like lovers? You know, only girls?"

Beth giggled and Deedee said: "You certainly get to the heart of the matter, girl!"

Renee apologized quickly and Deedee held up a hand:

"No, no, I was only kidding; we're interested in honesty here. Yes, we're lovers, not the 'only girls' as you say it though."

"Really?" Renee said.

Beth giggled again and said:

"Really, we give the boys a break now and then but Deedee is my love, the love of my life!"

Deedee gave Beth an air kiss then.

"Anything else?" Deedee asked.

"I shouldn't have even asked what I did!" Renee said, "Gran would have yelled at me, and I would have deserved it."

"We intend to be as much girlfriends among us as Moms and ******** here," Deedee said, and Beth shook her head in agreement.

"How about we show you your room now," Beth said.

"Oh dear!" Renee said, tearing up and apologizing for it, "My room!"

Beth said quickly: "You can get as emotional as you want, honey; we're family and Deedee often lets me cry on her shoulder."

"And Beth, the angel, does the same for me," Deedee said.

Renee got up and said: "My room!" Then she turned to the two women with her arms wide and said: "Momma Beth , Momma Deedee!"

She looked at them seriously and asked:

"You don't mind if I call you that? Do you?"

Beth laughed but with tears in her eyes and Deedee said:

"Welcome home, love," as they hugged.

The house was a split bedroom house, with the master suite on one side and four bedrooms on the other. They took a tour and let a squealing, and jumping Renee chose her own room. She was almost beside herself with excitement.

They had a kind of a conference among them after that to decide what was necessary right away. They decided to make their first shopping trip the next day in order to buy Renee some things for her bedroom, to outfit it. She was bubbly and exceedingly happy about it. They would also stop to at least get her some clothes. They all worked at getting Renee's room ready for her. She could hardly still believe that she went from being homeless in fact, to living with two loving, caring people like Deedee and Beth.

It was at about that point that Beth told the other two that she was going to go and thaw some steaks for their dinner.

They simply thought that Renee should get some more rest before the big shopping trip was begun. Renee was happy enough to be able to wait for the next day.

They sat after dinner and talked a good long time. Beth and Deedee spoke to Renee about their own lives and backgrounds. The evening went quickly and before long they were ready to go to bed.

It was Deedee who spoke up:

"Honey," she said to Beth, "We didn't get out and get stuff for Renee's room; why don't we just let her ***** with us tonight?"

Renee squeaked at the thought.

"It'll be a kind of girl's pajama party!" Beth said enthused.

"But . . .but I don't have pajamas!" Renee said.

"We don't either!" Deedee said with a laugh, and they all began to laugh.

"Well then," Beth said, "It'll be a kind of a girl's panties party!"

They all giggled at the thought but were in agreement.

They all took showers in preparation for bed and ended all tumbled into Beth and Deedee's king sized bed. They talked and giggled for a while, with Renee constantly telling them that she praised God for her good fortune.

Beth was in bed with Renee first, putting Renee in the middle. When Deedee was ready, she went over to Beth's side of the bed for a good night kiss.

"I love you, sweet angel," Deedee said to Beth, and got her kiss.

"I love you, Deedee," Beth said.

They settled down after a while and Renee, filled to the very brim with her experiences of the past few days, drifted off.

When the girl was asleep, Deedee reached across and held Beth's hand.

"She's such a treat!" Deedee said.

"Thank you for helping to bring it about!" Beth said.

"Thank you for being you!" was Deedee's reply as they quieted for *****.

Beth was the first one up in the morning. She put on a pair of running pants and a tee shirt and went to the kitchen to get some breakfast underway, coffee and she made cinnamon rolls. The coffee smell got Deedee out of bed and after a bit, Renee came wandering wearing only her panties from the night before.

Beth handed her a pair of nike running pants and a tee shirt and said:

"I promise that today we shop and get you outfitted!"

Their shopping day was outrageously exciting. They got things for Renee's bedroom; they bought clothes, they had lunch and then took her home to let her get some rest. In the afternoon they had a room decorating party, and planned dinner out to celebrate the three of the.

Epilogue:

With John Eltringham's usual wizardry, they were able in a short period of time to become the legal guardians of Renee. They settled down to a good life together, and Renee was scrupulous about respecting Deedee and Beth's privacy.

Deedee and Beth's passion did not abate. They grew in their attachment for each other and it never flagged.

Renee fit into their lives perfectly but the best of it all was the birth of little Deedee Elizabeth, who her Mom insisted looked exactly like both of her grandmas.

The End.

Hunter's Moon

Prologue

I must be out of my damn mind.

I reached forward, palms up, the universal sign of non-violence. The creature was beautiful, huge and covered with gingery fur. He had these unblinking golden eyes that seemed to see everything. I walked slowly, closer and closer. It didn't move.

'Wild creatures are more afraid of you than you are of them'. I remembered my ****** saying that when I cried at the San Diego zoo years before. Weirdly, enough, I wasn't afraid at all. That's where the part about me being out of my damn mind came in. Any sane person would be terrified of a giant wolf standing silently in the middle of a Manhattan alley.

I just wanted to touch him...

*

1.

New York

Another morning, Friday right? After a few moments of staring blearily at my clock I decided that yes, in fact, it was Friday. It didn't matter. Every morning felt pretty much the same. Some days were colder than others, lately I'd been freezing my ass off and wishing I could feel the west coast sun. Cold, sunny, raining, snowing (couldn't wait for that) it didn't change anything. Groaning, I pulled my covers over my head and squeezed my eyes closed. I didn't want to get up. What was the point? No matter what, it would be the same unsatisfying grind that every other day was.

Finally, I resigned myself to the fact that I had to get to class and gingerly crawled out of my warm comfortable bed. It was the only part of my apartment that I really liked. The floor shocked me a little. I reminded myself for the hundredth time that I needed to get a rug for the side of my bed. The tiles in the bathroom were even worse. Ditto on the rug. The face that greeted me was tired. Not ****** tired, but tired, tired. Like nothing would ever wake me up. I wasn't sure if I'd ever really been awake in my life.

I dressed for the crisp Manhattan fall, layering on jackets and a scarf. It was going to be a long time before I made it home. I had three long and boring Literature classes, then advanced creative writing seminar before I headed to my closing shift at the bookstore.

I looked in the hallway mirror hoping something had changed since the bathroom. It hadn't. I sighed. Another day, right? Maybe this would be the day that something happened. Something? Jesus, anything would be nice.

* * * *

New York was a disappointment. Obviously not at all what I'd expected, what I had dreamed for years that it would be. I'd only been there three months and already thought at least four or five times every day about dropping my classes and buying a ticket home. I missed California. I liked the beaches, the laid back attitude, being able to walk around my neighborhood at night without the fear of getting mugged for the four dollars in my pocket.

But San Diego was no place for a writer. At least that's what I thought for the first twenty years of my life. So I transferred to NYU, rented an apartment sight unseen and hopped on a plane in August trying not to watch my ****** cry. I thought that maybe in a new city, the city I'd always dreamed of living in, things would be different. I could be interesting and creative, live a big exciting life. Break out of the thick shell I had been shielded by since as long as I could remember. I felt deep in my bones that as soon as I landed in New York wonderful things were going to start happening to me. I couldn't wait for my new adventure. Adventures, unfortunately, rarely turn out as planned.

I guess I have to give the city some credit. It was exciting and large, there were a ton of interesting neighborhoods to explore, lots of people to meet. Maybe everything would have been exactly how I pictured if I wasn't me. But I was. Unfortunately. Miles Rowan Hunter was the same quiet bookworm he'd been at home in California. No city could change that. Sometimes I wondered if anything could. I hoped that I would someday live up to that whopper of a name mom had stuck me with. Hadn't happened so far.

My first few days in the city I'd been hopeful. Looked around every corner for something new and interested to happen to me. I'd even gone out and gotten the ridiculous (and expensive) tattoo of a rowan tree that grew up my side and onto my shoulder blade. I thought that the tattoo would make me more interesting, a little wilder. It was just a tree-a very big and permanent tree, which if anything made me look more delicate. Didn't change who I was at all.

It didn't take me long to give up my dream of new and exciting things. Within weeks it felt like everything was the same as it had been back home, class was still class, I didn't really know anyone, and I spent most of my nights at this little bookstore about a mile away from my apartment that had the best mochas I'd ever tasted and rack after rack of books that I could get lost in. At least the bookshop owner was nice. He smiled at me and never minded that I read his books and hardly ever bought one. I barely had the money for coffee most days.

Somewhere around the middle of September Ralph, the owner of the bookshop, offered me a job. He said that I probably knew the content of his shelves better than he did by then and he'd like to go home and eat dinner with his wife a few nights a week. I said yes, figuring since I spent all of my time there anyway, I might as well earn some badly needed money while I was at it. That short answer was probably the best part about my time in New York to that point.

In a heartbeat, the bookstore became my home. I liked it better than school, where I was just a face in the crowd, I liked it a hell of a lot better than my rat-trap of an apartment where I had to listen to my downstairs neighbors shout at each other in some language I'd never heard. It was only there that I didn't feel like bursting into tears and calling my ****** to beg her for plane fare back to San Diego. I felt competent there, knowledgeable, comfortable. If I could, I would have spent every waking hour working, which obviously would be counterproductive to my dreams of becoming a famous author.

Ralph noticed right away that I was good at what I did and started giving me more responsibilities. I started the first few nights as a shelver and as closing clerk. By the beginning of October, I was ordering books, signing local authors for appearances, and I even organized the first poetry open mic night. Too bad I'd pee my pants before I ever had the balls to read anything I'd written in front of an audience.

* * * *

On that blustery late fall morning, when everything seemed like it would never change, I struggled the door of my building open, book bag slung over my shoulder, and trudged the ten blocks to campus and my first of three long tedious classes. I had four, but the fourth class, the one that fell in the dreaded after-dinner slot, never felt long at all. I loved it. The professor was as hard-ass as they came, flaying students alive for producing lame work, but he was a legend. If anyone could turn me into the writer I was meant to be, than it was

him.

We spent the class talking about elements of fiction, characterization, plot, symbolism. All the same things we discussed in the Lit classes but it was so different when it was in the context of writing, of what we could do with these dry elements to make them come to life. Even with the terror of being singled out, the class was fascinating and I was writing better than I ever had before. It was only every once in a while after I'd written something I was actually kind of proud of that I thought that maybe coming to New York really had been the best thing for me to do.

I have to admit there was one more thing I liked about my writing class and it wasn't very scholarly of me...the professor's assistant. Sigh. He was a first year grad student and one of the nicest people I'd come across in New York. He seemed to spend half of his time building the students back up when Professor Hawthorne had torn us down.

Of course his overwhelming niceness wasn't exactly the first thing I noticed about him. I mean, I wasn't the type to drool over guys, but this one I'd happily spend hours looking at. He had this pale glowy skin and night black hair and an infectious grin that made my knees weak. I was lucky enough to be in his critique group instead of the professor's and I hung on to every single word the guy said. He was never overt about it but I got the distinct feeling that he was into guys too. Every once in a while I thought I might get up the nerve to ask him to coffee or something, but of course I never did. I just looked forward to Wednesday and Friday evenings like no other part of my week and drooled in silence.

That night when I got to class after three stultifying hours of Literature and a long nap in my favorite corner of the library, my gorgeous TA was passing out our most recent attempts at fiction writing with Hawthorne's (probably) scathing remarks plastered all over them. I cringed as I sat and waited for the bad news. It was never pleasant to read what the professor had to say. Always right, but usually painful as well.

My story landed on the desk in front of me, it was my latest high dive into a world of fantasy where the impossible happened every day. Not usually the type of writing to make you a favorite among the academic types. I looked up only to find my hot TA still standing there. Like how I keep calling him 'my'? I'm so pathetic. He gave me a big smile.

"I loved it, Miles."

He. Knows. My. Name? I ducked my head down instinctively. My mouth opened to say something else, anything to keep him from walking away. It was then that I noticed the glint of silver on his left ring finger. DAMN. My gaydar sucked. Even though I'd barely even gotten up the nerve to answer his questions during group let alone actually talk to him, my stomach plummeted in disappointment.

"Thanks, Zack," I mumbled and slouched into my seat.

"Of course. Can't wait to read the next one." He touched my shoulder and continued around the room, passing out stories to the waiting students. Why can't I find a guy like him with no ring?

As soon as he walked away I felt a poke on my side. The girl next to me, who'd I'd exchanged smiles with a few times made a fanning motion with her hand and mouthed the word

'hot'. I blushed at being caught staring, but I smiled and nodded. Then the professor started talking, outlining the journaling assignment that we would discuss in our critique groups later. My cheeks calmed down, and I halfway forgot about my little exchange with the girl next to me. After a few minutes, though, a slip of paper landed on my desk.

He's the reason I never ditch this class. Did you check out those lips?

I grinned and ducked my head. Didn't want to catch the attention of Hawthorne the Horrible.

I know. Amazing right? But he's got a ring on his left hand. Of course.

I couldn't believe I was writing notes in class. It was like middle school all over again but fun all the same. The paper slid back onto my desk.

Figures. All the cute ones are taken... or gay.

I looked up at her and she winked. I blushed again. She took back the paper.

I'm Lisa. Since we seem to have the same taste in guys, maybe we should be friends

At that one I nearly chuckled out loud.

I'm Miles. It's nice to meet you.

What are you doing tonight? We should hang out. I don't have any plans and I hate to be bored on a Friday night.

I wish I could. I've got to work right after class. If you're trying to combat boredom you can come by and I'll make you coffee or something. I work at Village Books.

No way! I've passed by there a million times. Sure, why not? I'll walk you over.

I smiled at her, nodding my head. It felt good to finally have the potential of a friend.

After class, there was the usual shuffle when everyone stood and started putting their stuff away. I wondered for a second if Lisa forgot the note from the beginning of class. I wasn't going to push it, but really hoped that she was still planning on walking to the shop with me. I'd been longing to have someone my age to talk to. Ralph was really nice, and his wife always brought me little treats because I was 'too skinny' but a real friend would be exactly what I needed.

"You don't strike me as a New Yorker. Where are you from?" I was a little surprised when Lisa spoke, but then I noticed her standing with her book bag waiting for me. I smiled up at her and stood, slinging my messenger bag over my shoulders. She hadn't forgotten.

"I'm from San Diego. I just moved here in August. Are you from here?"

"Connecticut. I'm from the 'burbs but I try to hide it." I laughed and surveyed her tough street-wise appearance complete with the requisite black and tons of attitude.

"I'd buy you as a city girl."

"Thanks, sweetie!" She grinned at me. "Let's get you to work."

Our conversation on the way to the bookstore flowed easily. Of course we started by talking about the hot TA and our continuing obsession with him, ring or not, but then we moved on to favorite authors, movies, music. We had surprisingly a lot in common for two people from such different places.

I told her that I'd moved out from the west coast to be a writer but that I wasn't sure if I liked New York just yet. I zipped my coat as I said that, making her laugh.

"Miss the sun?" She smirked.

"Yeah, I do. The sun, the beaches, the palm trees...the surfer boys." She laughed. "Of course it was still really hot when I got here, and September was nice. But now..." I shivered. "Anyway, I hope my writing career goes somewhere, or I'll be working at the bookstore for the rest of my life. I like the bookstore, but not that much!"

"You'll get published. I love your stories, at least from what I've heard in critique group."

"Thanks. They're just silly, vampires and ghosts and stuff. It's not like I write 'serious fiction', whatever Hawthorne always means by that." She rolled her eyes.

"Hawthorne can take his serious fiction and shove it up his ass. Isn't the whole point of reading to be entertained? It's hard to be entertained by something if it puts you to ******"

I laughed, sputtering with surprise that anyone would dare to say that the venerated Professor Hawthorne could shove anything up his ass. I'd always agreed though- well about the serious fiction thing, not the ass shoving. It was my main complaint with most creative writing programs. They never seemed to have room for the people like me who wanted to write horror, or romance, or something fun. It was always so heavy. The students who were applauded wrote about people with damaged souls and the holocaust and wars and half the time I felt like slitting my wrists after I read it. I was glad someone finally agreed.

"Besides," Lisa teased. "Zack loved your story."

"Shut up!"

I laughed and nudged her, surprisingly already comfortable enough with my new friend to joke around. Then I held open the door to the shop and ushered her in.

"Oh, this place is adorable! I should have come in a long time ago." I smiled at Lisa's enthusiasm. She was exactly the kind of person a quiet soul like me needed-bright and exuberant.

"I love it too. It's kind of home to me. My apartment sucks, so I spend most of my free time here."

"Don't blame you. So do I get that coffee you promised?" I stashed my bag behind the front register and walked to the café area.

"Of course. How do you like it?"

I didn't have any customers. The late night student rush hadn't started. So I sat with Lisa, drank mochas and traded stories of our various non-adventures. It was comforting to find another person who felt like nothing ever happened to them. I supposed most people thought that nothing ever happened to them but the two of us were dying for adventure.

It was a little embarrassing but I even lifted my shirt-after making sure no customers were coming of course- and showed her the tree I'd had tattooed up my side in a misguided attempt to do something edgy and cool. She loved if of course. It figured. She oohed and ahhed and traced the design with her finger, which tickled and made me laugh.

"I think the tattoo is hot, Miles. Definitely gives you badass points. Does it mean anything?"

"Not really. It's a rowan tree. My middle name is Rowan because my ****** thought it sounded aristocratic."

"Miles Rowan...?"

"Hunter. Miles Rowan Hunter." I rolled my eyes.

"Your ****** was right. That's an awesome name. I'm jealous. Lisa Anne Rice isn't quite the same." She gave me a slightly wary look.

"Your middle name is really Anne?" I couldn't hold in the laughter.

"Yeah. I can thank my mom for that. I guess she was reading Interview with a Vampire while she was pregnant with me. At least she restrained herself slightly. My middle name could've been Lestat." I laughed again and held up my coffee cup.

"Here's to names that are impossible to live up to." Lisa clinked her paper coffee cup with mine but raised her eyebrows challengingly and tossed her long strawberry blonde ponytail.

"Here's to finally doing something to live up to them."

2.

Wolf

I could feel my heart pounding uncomfortably in my chest, thunking against my ribs in a wild drumming pattern. My eyes shifted around the street, cataloguing the darkened windows, the hulking shadows, the leaves and small pieces of trash that scuttled along in the chill autumn wind.

Something wicked this way comes...

The line from Macbeth popped into my head and I picked up my pace. What the hell had I been thinking? When I asked for something exciting to happen I didn't mean this! I hated being scared, I hated wishing I'd coughed up the money for a cab. I knew I needed to suck it up, act like a real New Yorker, and walk my damn self home but I was freaking out.

It was after midnight and it had happened again. No matter how many times Ralph warned me to close up shop on time and get home, I never failed to get lost in the books, wishing I could be in their world instead of my own dull gray one. That night, I'd been in the deep and eerie south living with the vampires Lestat and Louis. Their macabre world was fascinating -so different from my quiet routine of classes and work.

Lisa had stopped by the store again, and I'd talked to her for a few hours, glad for the company on a quiet Saturday evening. After she left, I picked up the classic vampire tale, and before I knew it closing time had long passed and the normally busy and bustling street was creepily quiet.

As soon as I noticed the quiet and the late hour my nerves set in. The village became New Orleans in the time of the vampires and the familiarity of the bookstore was suddenly teeming with shadows. It was my imagination. I knew it was. The damn thing tended to run away with me on a regular basis. But even if I told myself I was making things up it didn't really help. I could still see specters lurking in the shadows, vampires hiding in doorways and darkened corners. I knew I'd be shivering and nervous until I was safe inside my tiny apartment with the outside door bolted.

Live in the book world? Who the hell are you kidding-You can't even walk through the village at night without freaking out. You'd probably pass out if you saw anything even vaguely resembling Lestat.

I heard the shuffling of footsteps behind me. Great. I didn't know if I should run or if it would be best to keep walking and act casual. Quickly, I ducked into the next street I came to, hoping that whoever had been behind me was just walking and wouldn't follow. No such luck.

The footsteps grew louder, echoing on the brick buildings, their walls close together in the narrow alley I'd inadvertently turned into.

Great job, moron. Could you have picked a street that looked any more like a slasher film set?

I tucked my head into my chest and picked up the pace yet again. I was nearly running but so scared that I tripped over my feet with every step. Without warning, I ran into something warm and solid blocking his path.

I looked up. What I saw stopped me short.

There was a group of guys, five or six, large, beefy, reeking of *******.

"Look, Jay, it's the little book fairy."

I realized that I remembered the speaker. It was this jerk from earlier in the store who didn't know how to take no for an answer. I'd thought I was pretty polite when I said I wouldn't give him my number. Apparently it was still bothering him.

"Why can't you leave me alone?" I was trying to make my voice sound strong.

"We don't leave fairies alone in this neighborhood, do we?" There was a round of grumbling and grunting.

I thought about outing my assailant to his cronies but I realized quickly it would make things worse. Shuffling to the side, I tried to get around the line of thugs but they moved surprisingly fast for a bunch of beefcakes.

"What? Are you trying to get home so you can put on all your pink dresses?" I was near tears, mostly from fear but from anger too. I hated that trait of mine. Don't cry, you jerk. Let them insult you. Maybe then they'll feel like big men and they can take their ***** asses home and leave you alone.

I felt a rough jolt as I was thrown to the ground. Then again, maybe not. Bookstore beefcake straddled me on the ground. I cringed and closed my eyes when he pulled his fist back to punch. The pain shattered through my eye, radiating out my cheekbones and the back of my head, which had slammed against the concrete. Was this really how I would end? As the victim of some closeted gay basher? Talk about pathetic.

I braced myself for another punch-then suddenly the weight was off of me and I heard a loud crunch as his shoulder was pounded against the bricks of the building across the alley. A loud growl shook the air. It was then that I saw who'd rescued me...more like what had rescued me.

My mouth dropped open. Slinking down the alley and herding the now terrified and running thugs out to the main street was the biggest wolf I'd ever seen. His back had to be nearly even with my waist, his shoulders were wide and sinuous his paws bigger than any human hand I'd seen. I should have been afraid. Should've been running for my life like the guy he'd just thrown against a wall. But I wasn't afraid of him. He was beautiful.

I didn't know what to do so I sat there on the hard cold ground and watched him. There was something about the way he moved, the set of his eyes, everything. It was entrancing. He was the most blatantly masculine creature I'd ever seen. I was fascinated by him. Sitting still and barely breathing, I watched him the entire time he chased my attackers away. Finally, when they had disappeared around the corner, the wolf came loping back to me. I stumbled to my feet never breaking my stare and he stopped a few arms' distances in front of me.

That's when I started doubting my sanity. There was a huge wolf sitting in the alley and gazing at me with luminous gold eyes. That same wolf had just tossed a huge man against a brick wall and chased off the rest of the gang and now I wanted to get closer? But I did. The feeling compelled me more than any I'd ever felt. I want to touch him...

I stepped forward, palms up.

"I won't hurt you," I whispered. "I know you aren't going to hurt me either."

I got the distinct impression that the wolf understood me. His stance relaxed and I stepped closer, reaching out and burying my fingers in his red-gold coat. It was soft and warm and when I leaned closer, it smelled strangely like coconut.

I felt drawn to the wolf. Like I wanted to be close to it and wrap my arms around its muscular body and just fall asleep. The feeling was strange, new, so strong that I couldn't help but to be overcome by it. I sank down into a cross-legged position, and the ****** lowered his head so we were eye to eye. I should have been afraid, with a wild ****** only centimeters away from me, but he felt so familiar. My hand went up, almost of its own volition and I stroked his soft warm fur. Then I wrapped my arms around his wide downy shoulders and buried my face into the sweet smelling warmth.

What the hell am I doing?

I had no rationale for my behavior, no reason to be doing something so insane other than it just felt...right. My heart seemed to beat a little bit differently, and I felt strangely content. I don't know how long we sat there in that cold alley, the wolf silent and still, me holding on to him and absorbing his quiet strength.

Finally, when I was sure someone would be coming down the street at any time, I gently pulled away from him. It almost hurt, that split second when we lost all physical contact. I nearly leaned forward to wrap my arms around him again, but I didn't.

His eyes looked like I felt, like something was missing that had been so complete only moments before. Then he stood, and with one small nudge of his muzzle against my neck, he loped off into the night.

* * * *

I know I walked home. I had to have because without even knowing how I got there, I was in my small apartment staring at the dingy wall that I'd tried to decorate with posters and printed fabric. I had no idea what had happened out there in the alley, but the feel of the big ****** beneath my arms, the sweet scent of his hair, those wild but somehow wise eyes-it haunted me.

My shower woke me slightly from the trance that I was in, but not all the way. I wanted to go back and find him. But where would I even start looking?

It was close to impossible to fall asleep. Every time I closed my own eyes, I saw his luminous gold ones. They were wise and strong and somehow mischievous. So many of the things I wished I was had been reflected in those eyes. It made me yearn for contact again. I wanted so desperately to be back in my wolf's presence.

I only wished I knew how...

* * * *

I was glad for work the next day. If I didn't have anything to do, I probably would have gone nuts. I felt like I was going nuts anyway. Had I imagined that whole scene last night? I knew I hadn't. I would've had to be on ***** a lot more expensive than I could ever afford to hallucinate something that strange and have it be so damn vivid. Besides, there were scuffmarks on my shoes and the rear end of my jeans from the night before was all black and dirty from landing on the street.

There was no dream. It had really happened.

Like something out of one of the stories I wrote, it was unreal and amazing. I didn't even know what questions to start with. That wasn't entirely true. I did know the one most important question. What the hell had happened in that alley last night?

I couldn't get it out of my mind. Not the entire experience-honestly the part that should have been traumatic had disappeared from my mind almost entirely. I barely spared a thought to the thugs that knocked me to the ground and gave me the shining purple bruise on my cheek. The only thing I could think about was him. The wolf. My wolf.

What was he? I'd seen documentaries about uncanny ****** behavior before, about them saving people and other ******s, but what had happened last night was more than uncanny. It was human. He'd chased those thugs off and come to comfort me, letting me hug him and nuzzling me with his nose. I wanted to see him again. I wanted to know who he was.

All day at the shop I listened for reports of escaped wolves, zoo break-ins, anything that would give me a clue to where my savior had come from. I couldn't believe there was nothing. Even though I was grateful for work, it was close to impossible to get anything done. I felt antsy, uncomfortable in my skin. At the same time I felt like giggling at the weirdest moments and sometimes it was almost like I was watching myself perform my everyday tasks but not actually doing them. It was a weird feeling, and one I vaguely recognized.

It tickled the back of my mind, that familiar feeling. Finally around dinner, an hour or so before closing, it finally hit me. It was how I'd felt back in high school when I had a huge crush on one of my friends. When we weren't together I'd get these surges of restlessness, like I needed to be somewhere else and couldn't stand to sit still. When we were together everything was perfect...well at least until he'd found out that I had a crush on him and stopped talking to me.

But who was it this time? I thought Zack was hot (obviously), but I didn't know enough about him to be feeling this way. Could it be?

Jesus Christ, Miles. Don't even think it. You DO NOT have a crush on a wolf.

Of course I didn't. But that didn't stop me from feeling that weird bubbly feeling, or from remembering how content, how perfect it was to be wrapped around him and breathing his warmth. I felt like I needed a reality check and it was going to have to come in the form of my new best friend.

Hey, Lisa. You busy? I had a really weird night. Need some advice...or something.

A few minutes later I got a text in return.

Not really doing anything. Want me to come to the shop?

I said yes, of course, and promised to have a large peppermint white mocha waiting for her when she got there. Then I started working on what the hell I was going to tell her.

Eventually I decided that the whole truth and nothing but the truth was going to be the only way to go.

* * * *

"So what the heck happened to you yesterday? I practically ran over here because I was so curious!" I grinned at Lisa's face, part excitement and

part excruciating curiosity. Her excitement turned to horror when she saw the large and very purple bruise on my cheek. "Oh my goodness, Miles, honey what happened to your face?"

"It's a long story. Have a seat and ***** your coffee." She sat and shuffled her purse and coat off to the side. I used those few short moments to decide how I was going to relay my bizarre night to her. "Okay, so to start, this guy came in the shop yesterday. He asked for my number and I declined as politely as possible."

"How come? Not cute?"

"Let's just say he wasn't Zack," I joked. It was more of a habit than anything. I had barely given the cute TA a single thought since the night before. Lisa laughed.

"Anyway, after you left I kind of got lost in Anne Rice and before I knew it I'd stayed at the store until nearly one in the morning." She rolled her eyes.

"Let me guess the next part. You walked home alone?" I nodded and she picked up a pen from the register display to hit me on the head with. "Don't do that again. I know we just met, but I'd like to be friends with you for a long time. I don't want to have to I.D. your remains in an alley somewhere."

"Funny you say that. That's the next part. I was walking home, and doing a great job of freaking myself out. I thought I heard footsteps behind me, well actually I did, so I made a few weird turns and ended up in this creepy ass alley a few blocks from my place. Long story short, phone number guy had rounded up a few of his beefy friends to help get revenge on me under the guise of fag hunting."

Lisa's face turned to anger immediately. I held up my hand for her to hear the rest. "I thought about outing the jerk to his friends, but I knew it would make the situation worse so I didn't. He pushed me to the ground and whaled on me one good time but before he could do it again he was pulled off of me and slammed against a brick wall. And that's where my story gets a little insane."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I gotta ask. Have you heard any news reports of zoo ******* escaping? Highly trained? Or maybe a wild ****** roving around the streets." She laughed.

"No, nothing at all, what are you getting at?"

"Here's the thing. The person who saved me, who pulled that guy off of me and chased away his friends, well it wasn't a person at all. It was a wolf." Lisa's eyes grew wide for a second, then she started laughing.

"Are you shitting me?" I smiled, knowing how certifiable I must sound.

"I wish I was, well sort of at least. I know what I saw, Lis. There was a huge reddish-gold wolf in that alley. He got rid of the attackers and then he just walked over and sat in front of me like a Labrador waiting for his treat." She laughed again.

"Did you give him one?"

"I'm serious! I felt so drawn to him. Here was this wolf the size of a small horse and I just walked right up and put my arms around him. It was like I couldn't turn away from him. And the weirdest part?...well if there is only one weirdest part. He seemed kind of human. Like I talked to him and I think he understood me and his fur smelled like coconut shampoo."

"Maybe he's someone's pet. You know, like a service dog. And he just looked like a wolf because he was so big."

"He wasn't a dog. I know what a retriever looks like. He was wild, beautiful and he had these big gold eyes; they seemed intelligent and a little bit mischievous. I'm not even sure if he was really a wolf...well I'm not sure he was only a wolf that is." She ****** on her coffee.

"You know what I think? I think you've been spending too much time writing those stories of yours! There's got to be a rational explanation for this."

"That's why I wanted to talk to you. I need someone to help me make sense of last night." She took a deep breath.

"You're one hundred percent sure you saw the wolf?"

"Yes, and before you ask, I was totally sober. I'm always totally sober. Even if I wanted to be anything else I'm too broke." She laughed.

"Then I guess you and me have to find this wolf."

That was, of course, exactly what I wanted to do.

* * * *

Easier said than done, of course. Lisa and I spent the next few nights prowling my neighborhood, up and down the streets and alleys between my place and the bookshop. It was entertaining, we spent lots of time striking dumb poses and pretending to be spies, but it was mostly fruitless. The only thing we found was a tuft of orange hair in the alley where I'd originally been attacked. It was in the hinge of a dumpster and it smelled faintly like coconut.

Lisa's eyes got a little wider when she saw the fur but I could tell she was still a little skeptical. How on earth could a larger than life wolf have been roaming around the village for even five minutes without ending up on the news?

By our Friday night writing class we were both worn out from out nocturnal adventures and I, for one, was frustrated as all hell. I'd had that weird restless crush feeling all week and even after returning from the nightly jaunts with Lisa I still wasn't ******** very well. I needed to find my wolf to see if it really was him causing the feelings...even though I wasn't sure if I wanted to know that answer.

I flopped down in my seat on Friday night, too tired and exasperated to even worry about being quiet. Lisa hadn't gotten there yet but I tossed my book bag onto her chair to save it for her. I didn't even notice Zack until he was standing right in front of me. Not noticing his hotness? What the hell was wrong with me?

"Hey, Miles, you okay? You looked a little worn out on Wednesday. I was worried about you."He was so nice...

"I'm all right. Thanks for asking though."

"You sure you don't want to talk about it? We have a few minutes." I sighed. I kind of did want to talk about it with him. He'd think I was nuts but...I decided on a slightly less than true version.

"I met this really fascinating guy last weekend then he just disappeared. I've been looking for him but I'm running out of places to look and I've had that weird feeling all week, like when you want to be near someone and you can't so nothing you do seems to be what you want."

Zack smiled.

"I know what you mean. I get like that all the time when I'm away from my boyfriend."

I knew it! I tried to contain my gratification.

"What does the guy look like?"

I hesitated.

"This is going to sound really weird, but he kind of reminds me of a wolf. He has these really cool golden eyes."

Zack got a strange look on his face for a split second and then it cleared. "I'll keep an eye out for wolf boy for ya." He grinned and shuffled my hair gently. I waited to feel the heart pounding that little gesture would have caused a week before...I got nothing. The only thing I could think of were a pair of luminous glowing eyes.

Lisa came flouncing in just as class was starting and flopped into her saved seat. I couldn't wait to tell her the newest gossip.

You're never going to guess what I just found out...

What? Did you find anything out about the wolf?

I grinned at her.

No, but I have gossip! Guess who's gay after all?

Her head popped up and I gestured subtly towards Zack.

No way! How do you know?

He asked if I was okay, and I told him that I was feeling kind of weird and restless. He said he understood-that he got that way when he was away from his boyfriend....AHHH!

Lol! I would have never thought. I guess your gaydar is better than you thought.

Guess so!

I noticed that Hawthorne was calling on people randomly, asking questions about the classic master plots that we were supposed to have read about since Wednesday. Since I hadn't done my reading for the first time ever I decided it wasn't the best day to call attention to myself. I slid the note into my backpack and tried valiantly to pay attention. It was hard, though, with Lisa making dumb faces at me and trying to get me to reply. I smiled ruefully. She was going to be a bad influence.

* * * *

It had been a long day. Hell it had been a long two weeks. I couldn't believe that after all that time, the gold eyes of the wolf still haunted me. And yet there was nothing. No newspaper stories, no signs of anything out of the ordinary. I half expected to see him again, wanted him to be looking for me like I was looking for him. I knew how ridiculous that sounded but I didn't care. As rational a human being as I tried to be, I still couldn't see that wolf as all ******. And I wanted him to be looking for me too.

Zack continued to give me strange looks every once in a while during class and he talked to me way more in two weeks than he had for the first two months of school. I thought perhaps I was being paranoid, but I started to wonder if he maybe knew something that he wasn't saying. The weird look he'd given me when I said the word 'wolf' was stuck in my memory. I was half tempted to run him down after class and try to get whatever it was that he knew out of him. But if he happened to just be a nice guy who was a writer and therefore sensitive to other people's emotions I'd look like total lunatic. I tried to avoid apparent lunacy most of the time.

The store had been really busy that night. A big crowd came in after dinner to listen to a local author read from his new science fiction book. Many had stayed after the signing for coffees and browsing. I was busy at the register as well, but for some reason my eyes kept straying. There was a kid who'd come in with the big swell of people a few hours before. I couldn't see him, but I knew he was still there. Every thirty seconds or so I'd scan the shop, looking for him. It's not that I thought he was trouble. Looked like a nice enough guy, but my eyes kept gravitating towards him. I couldn't help it.

For the first hour or so, I could have said exactly where he was at any given second. I wasn't even aware of how closely I'd been watching him. Now, I didn't know what corner he'd ended up in and it made me nervous. What the hell was wrong with me? I mean the kid was cute, at least from a distance there was no denying it, but he looked like he was in high school and I was not into kids for damn sure. I had to admit, though, that mop of dark auburn curls was enchanting and the way he moved was so graceful it barely seemed like he put any effort in at all.

Oh Jesus. Ring up the damn customer, Miles.

I looked up anyway. Where was he?

The shop was starting to empty out. I was glad, since I was supposed to have closed nearly twenty minutes before. Even through my happiness to have the long work night ending, I was starting to panic. Was the kid gone? God, why the hell did I care? I couldn't deny it though. That panic feeling...the restlessness was there. God, what the hell was wrong with me? First a wolf and now some kid? It would be better to go back to drooling over the unavailable Zack! The last two customers trickled out the door and I locked it behind them. I could feel the kid's presence, I knew he was still there, but I hadn't seen him in close to an hour.

"Hello?" I called, feeling a little dumb. "Is there anyone still in here? I'm closing." I heard a rustling, and there he was, teetering out of the aisle with a big pile of books.

"Is it too late to ring these up?" His voice was soft and warm like tea with honey and milk on a cold morning. He sounded quite a bit older than he looked. I shivered a little.

Get a grip and stop checking out the kid, dork!

"No, it's fine. I haven't closed out yet."

"Thanks," He answered and piled the books down on the counter.

The second I saw his eyes emerge from behind the books, golden and slightly wild, I felt my heart grind to a slow thumping stop. It couldn't be. It had to be.

"It's you," I whispered.

Without even thinking, I walked around the counter, slow and steady getting closer to him with every step. I almost held out my hands like I had before. He looked a little scared. I was terrified. He looked scared too.

"It is you, isn't it?"

He nodded. I stepped closer. He reached out a hand and placed it on my chest, palm against my thrashing heart. His hand moved slowly upwards until it was curled around my neck, fingers sinking into my hair. He watched his hand the whole time, almost as if he wasn't controlling it himself. Then he looked back at my face.

We were exactly the same size, his eyes locked with mine.

"I didn't think I'd ever see you again," He whispered, voice throaty. I didn't say anything. Instead I did something I could have never imagined doing in a million years.

I pulled his head close and crushed his lips to mine. I didn't think to ask if he liked guys, didn't care how young he looked, I just knew I needed to kiss him. I'd needed it since the night we met-since I thought he was a wolf and I was crazy but I had to touch him anyway.

And, oh, that kiss.

It exploded all around us, and I swear to god the world stopped. Cheesy, I know, but I felt it. And I tasted his flavor on my tongue, heard his soft moans in my ear. My stomach floated up filled with fluttering melting happiness. I slung my arms over his shoulders and my hands cupped his head, pulling it closer to my mouth, closer to me. I needed him badly. He was like air, like water, necessary to survive. I refused to believe I was the only one feeling it. He wrapped his arms around my waist and splayed his hands on the small of my back, squeezing me.

At that moment, when we both surrendered to whatever the hell had come over us, I finally felt the earth start to move again, to shift like it had been off kilter and was suddenly made right. My eyes welled up with tears, though I couldn't say what the hell I was crying about other than pure elation. I could feel him trembling and tightened my arms, sheltering him from the storm that was crashing all around. It was elemental, this thing pulling us together, it was fire and brimstone and it couldn't be stopped.

We finally yanked our lips away from each other, panting for breath. He looked shaken and more than a little scared. I'm sure I did too. I opened my mouth to speak, tell him my name, ask for his, tell him that I'd been waiting for him forever-even before I knew he existed. I didn't get a chance to say anything at all. His eyes grew wide and he turned, pulling out of my arms.

"Wait!" I cried but it was too late.

He turned and bolted for the door, fumbling with the lock before he yanked it open and ran into the night.

I stood there in total shock for long moments, unable to even begin processing what had happened. I finally saw my wolf, he was real and he was human too. I kissed him, I touched him.

He ran away from me.

The bones in my body melted and I crumbled to the floor and cried.

3.

After The Storm

I don't know what happened to me that night after the kiss, after my wolf ran away. Reality hadn't quite stepped in yet, that was for sure. I know I made it home somehow. The first thing I clearly remembered was sitting on my bed staring at the wall with my stomach aching like someone was trying to rip it out.

It hurt like hell. I tried to throw up, but couldn't. I couldn't eat or ***** anything either. But I wasn't sick. I knew what was causing this. He was. Whether he meant to or not, it had something to do with him. The pain struck me the second he ran out the door and it hadn't subsided. If anything it had gotten worse.

At least that weird uneasiness is gone. I was surprised I had the strength for sarcasm. Even the thought of smiling hurt. The pain was so bad I started to cry, which made it worse of course, but I couldn't help it.

Why did he run away from me? All I wanted was to be close to him. What was happening to me, to us? Was it somehow my fault? I realized at that point that I wasn't even questioning the fact that he was some kind of werewolf. It didn't even cross my mind to be skeptical. I knew it was true, sensed that he was my wolf in every remote corner of my body. I didn't have the energy to even wonder how he was possible. I just knew I needed him back.

I didn't go to school the next day, or the day after that. I couldn't even get out of my bed. It hurt too much. On the third day, I texted Lisa and told her to let Hawthorne know I was still really sick. She sounded concerned, but I assured her I just had a flu bug and she should probably stay away. I didn't have a clue how I was going to make myself better. Well, I knew what I needed to do, I just didn't know how I was going to do it. I needed to go find him but it had already proved to be an impossible task-especially since my body hurt so badly I couldn't even stand up straight.

That third night, around six o'clock I awoke from my uneasy half-doze to the sound of someone pounding on my door. Oh, god. Lisa. I told her not to come. That girl never listens to anyone.

With considerable effort, I dragged my body from bed and started inching my way to the door. Lisa knocked again, more insistent this time.

"I'm coming," I called, and was surprised by how feeble my voice sounded.

I finally made it to the door and struggled my locks open. I was shocked to see, not Lisa, but Zack standing on the other side. He looked worried.

"I got your address from Hawthorne's class list. I came here to see if you were still alive."

"Barely," I moaned.

He walked in to the apartment and shut the door behind him.

"I don't want to get you sick," I protested. I knew I wasn't going to get anyone sick, but I didn't want to answer questions either.

"I'll be fine." He led me over to my small couch and helped me sit before perching on the

arm. "Listen, Miles, is there anything I can do for you? I know your family is on the west coast and I'm really worried. Lisa is worried too."

"No, I'm fine."

"You're not fine. You look like death. You think you got something from one of the customers?" I shook my head. I didn't have the energy to make some story up from nowhere.

"No, it's not like that. I just-" I didn't know how to say it. "I think it has to do with the guy with the wolf eyes. Oh, Jesus. You're going to think I'm nuts."

Zack laughed.

"Believe me, I know all about nuts. Tell me what's going on."

I hung my head for long minutes, trying to think of how the hell I was going to tell him my crazy story.

"Okay, well to start with, the guy with wolf eyes-oh, god- okay, well he doesn't just have wolf eyes. He's..."

"A wolf?" To his credit Zack wasn't looking at me like I was crazy-yet.

"Yeah. I closed up shop late one night, and was walking home when I got cornered by a group of big guys. They started hitting me and then before I even realized what was going on, the main guy got pulled off of me and thrown against a wall. Then they all ran away. The crazy part is it wasn't a person who saved me, it was a wolf. A huge red-gold wolf with the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen." I stopped, looking at Zack and waiting for the judgment to seep into his face. I didn't see anything but concern and curiosity.

"So three nights ago, I was at the shop again, closing, and the place was deserted except for one last guy. I'd felt drawn to him all night, like I had to follow him with my eyes. I could've have told you where he was at any second. But anyway, he came to the counter with this huge pile of books and when he lowered them, I saw his eyes, the wolf's eyes. I kissed him, Zack. I kissed him and he ran away from me. I've felt like this ever since."

Zack sighed and put his hand over mine.

"I think I know what's going on here."

"You do?" That was nowhere near the reaction I'd been expecting.

"I think so. Let's get you back into bed and then I'll see what I can do to help." I looked at the clock.

"I actually have to try to get into work. I promised Ralph I wouldn't take another night off."

Zack gave me a look that reminded me so much of my ****** that I had to laugh-which turned into a groan because it hurt so badly. He shook his head.

"Okay, go get ready. I'm going to wait here and take you to the shop, okay?"

"Wait, you know where I work?" Zack smiled.

"Get ready. There will be time for explanations when you feel better."

The walk down the stairs to the street was slow and painful wasn't even a sufficient word for the agony that ripped through me at every small movement. Zack draped my arm around his shoulders and hailed a cab. I tried to protest but he told me there was no way in hell I was walking the mile or so to the shop and to not even think of arguing with him.

I wanted so badly to grill Zack, to figure out what the hell was wrong with me, but I didn't get the chance. He pulled out his phone the minute we were secured in the cab.

"Baby? It's me." He smiled at whatever was said on the other side of the phone. "Listen, you were right. I've got Miles. He looks just as bad if not worse. Get PC's stubborn ass down to village books, I don't care if you have to hog tie him. This can't continue." I opened my mouth to start with the questions, but Zack held his hand up.

"Okay, we'll be there in ten minutes. I love you too." He closed his phone and stuck it back in the pocket of his jeans.

"What's going on Zack, who's PC?" He smiled, annoyingly mysterious.

"I think you'll have no problems recognizing him."

Ralph was horrified when I walked into the door of the bookstore. Zack was next to me, halfway holding me up.

"Oh my god, Miles. I had no idea it was this bad! I would've never asked you to come in. You need to go home, ****"

"It's okay, Ralph. I'm here now so I may as well stay. This is my friend, Zack. He's been helping me out. He's going to stay with me tonight." I didn't know if that was true but I wanted to get Ralph to go home so I could collapse in peace. Besides, I had a feeling that something was going to happen tonight that Ralph didn't need to see.

As soon as he walked out, I did in fact sink not very gracefully onto the stool behind the counter. I put my head down on the cool laminate and concentrated on breathing. Zack seemed like he was planning on staying, like he was starting to be a friend. It was hard to say. After the past hour or so, he wasn't just a teacher type anymore. The lines had definitely blurred.

"Are you going to tell me what's going on?" I barely had the energy to whisper.

"I know him." He said it so quietly it was hard to hear.

"My wolf? Is PC his name?" Zack nodded.

"What's happening to me?"

"It's happening to him too. It's because you're apart. You'll feel better when he gets here, I promise."

"How do you know this stuff? Who are you?"

"I'm Zack and I'm trying to help you. Let's just leave it there for now. We'll get into the rest of it afterwards, okay?"

Just then the chime over the door rang. I lifted my head to see two figures walking in the door. One was a blond guy, one of the most beautiful people I'd ever seen. The other was him. My wolf. He looked even more awful than I felt...well more awful than I had been feeling. It seemed to be going away, draining off of me like a bad memory. I don't know how to describe it other than to say as soon as he was in the same room as me I felt...better.

I stood and walked around the counter, just as I had a few nights before. He sped up and walked towards me, closing the distance until we were wrapped up tightly in each other's arms.

"I'm so sorry," He whispered. I didn't reply. I was too busy breathing him in, feeling the pain slide completely away until I felt like I had the other night. He drew slightly away and brushed his lips over mine. "I wouldn't have stayed away if I knew it was affecting you too. I thought it was just me because of what I am." I nodded and pulled him close, not ready to be separated even by an inch. Over PC's shoulder, I noticed Zack and the beautiful blond guy standing hand in hand, smiling.

I finally drew away, but trailed my hand down his arm until I could tangle our fingers together. The need to touch him was so strong. I knew instinctively that it would probably hurt a little if I let go.

"My name is Miles by the way. We never even met the other night. Well, not really." I turned red.

"I'm PC." He detached one of his hands from mine and wiped at my cheek. "It's nice to meet you finally." He gave me a trembly smile. I hadn't even been aware that I was crying. I laughed shakily when he wove his fingers back with mine. He shook his head.

"I can't believe this. I never would have chosen it for either of us. I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I am." Never would have chosen what?

"Is someone going to finally tell me what on earth is happening to us?" I saw Zack and his boyfriend exchange glances with PC.

"Who wants to start?" asked the beautiful blond one.

"I think I should. Let's go sit." PC gestured to one of the café tables we had set up in the middle of the shop. "First of all, this is Noah, one of my best friends, and I guess you know Zack, another of my close friends. I can't believe how small this city is." PC shook his head quietly.

"Hi Miles," Noah smiled sticking out his hand. I shook it, feeling bemused.

It was interesting to see Zack with him. I'd known that Zack had a boyfriend, but to watch them together, to see how close they were made my stomach heat. It was almost like they were feeling what PC and I felt. Like if they weren't touching it was painful. Noah had his arm slung across the back of Zack's chair and his fingers were tangled in the hair at the nape of Zack's neck. Zack had his hand on Noah's knee and looked over at him with a smile every few minutes. I was envious of their intimacy.

"So, you have to know what I am, right?" PC turned to me.

"Well, I know you were the wolf, and you're you, but what's the name for it? Are you...a werewolf?" I couldn't believe that word had just come out of my mouth with even a drop of sincerity. It was nuts. PC chuckled.

"That's your one get out of jail free card, since you didn't know." He squeezed my hand. "I'm a Lycan, not a werewolf. It's different."

"How? I've always heard the two interchangeably."

"Werewolves are the traditional full moon rabid dog types. They can't control it, they can't stop it. You don't want to be anywhere near one of them when they're phased if you can help it. Lycans are more like what you would call a shape shifter. We can change when we want. The only time it happens accidentally is when we're angry. And when we're in our wolf form we are perfectly rational, human in our actions. We feel ****** impulses all the time but we can control them fairly easily."

"Oh." What else was I supposed to say? "And when did you get...turned into a Lycan?" PC laughed.

"Never. I was born one. My mom comes from a very old family. I didn't start shifting until I was eighteen though. Late bloomer."

"Wait, how old are you now?" I'd assumed he was young. Eighteen would have been pushing it.

"Twenty-four." I could feel my jaw drop. How was that even possible? He saw my obvious shock. "Uh, I stopped aging when I started to phase. So physically, I'm still a twerpy eighteen year-old."

"And mentally he's thirteen," Zack muttered. PC reached across the table to shove him and they both laughed.

PC pulled my hand onto his lap and smirked. I realized how good it felt to be with them at that moment. Zack and Noah, me and PC, it was comfortable. Even though it was so new it felt strangely familiar and right. It scared me a little, just how much I liked it.

"Thank god. I was a little worried that I was cradle robbing!"

"You can't really talk about looking young either. How old are you?"

"I just turned twenty-two a month ago. I'm in Zack's senior writing seminar, remember?" Zack laughed.

"I wish it was mine. Hawthorne's kind of a bastard, isn't he?" I nodded.

"Genius, but a bastard. So what's your deal? How come you know PC?" I reddened when I realized it may not be my business.

"I've been friends with him for a few years. I introduced him to Zack." It was the first time Noah had spoken since we first sat down. I liked the kindness in his voice. He seemed so gentle.

"And are you a-?" I still had a hard time saying the word out loud. I thought he probably wasn't anyway. He didn't have that slightly wild look in his eyes, and they were bright blue instead of gold.

"No, I'm not. Neither of us are." He looked at Zack. They seemed to be talking but weren't saying a word.

"They do this," PC stage whispered. "It's kind of nauseating."

"We were trying to decide if it was the right time to tell Miles the rest of it." Zack rolled his eyes at PC. I looked at them expectantly.

"And I hope since you just dropped that one, the answer was yes." They gave each other another silent look. Then Noah nodded.

"You're going to have to take a few things on faith here. You already believe that PC is what he is. You saw it for yourself." I nodded since there really was no denying it. "Well, I'm twenty-two just like you," He began and smiled. "But physically, just like PC, I'm eighteen. And I will be for the rest of my life."

"But I thought you just said you weren't like him." I was confused.

"I'm not. But I am immortal. I'm a vampire, Miles. And so is Zack." My jaw dropped again. Impossible. I looked at Zack and he nodded. PC pulled me closer to him. He must have been able to sense my distress.

"You're really a vampire?" My voice sounded weak, shocked.

"Yeah, it's true. I know that's pretty hard to swallow. We could prove it if you want to watch but you've had a long day. Another time might better." Zack gave me an understanding look.

"How long?"

"Noah was turned a little over four years ago by a rogue vampire who was trying to **** him. I was turned last year. By Noah."

"Why?"

"Because I wanted to be with him forever. It was an easy choice." I nodded.

I could tell by the way they looked at each other that it would be. My questions still weren't over, though.

"So you two are vampires, PC's a lycan, and I'm just a kid who works in a bookstore-"

"And writes amazing stories," Zack interjected. I grinned at him for a second.

"That still doesn't explain what's happening between us. I mean, why were we so sick?"

"Noah has a theory," Zack, murmured. PC looked very uncomfortable.

"It's something that we didn't even know was real," Noah started gently.

"I've never heard of it happening, other than in stories," PC told me. "And I know a lot of Lycans."

"What is it?" Was there something wrong with me?

"Have you heard of imprinting?" I looked at Noah in silence for a few seconds, then guffawed.

"You mean like-?" It sounded ridiculous, but then what part of my recent experiences wouldn't sound ridiculous to an outsider?

"Yes; the instant attraction, the way he sensed you being in danger and his need to protect you, the physical pain when you're apart. All the signs are right." I let go of PC's hand for an experiment and right away I felt it. It wasn't crippling pain like when he ran away but it wasn't comfortable. I reached for his hand again, he leaned closer instinctively and in an instant I felt worlds better. How was I supposed to live like that?

"This situation is impossible," I mumbled.

"You're telling me. It's the last thing either of us need. We're going to have to contact my ******. See if there's some way to break it- if imprinting really even exists." It stung when he said that. I knew that we couldn't live our lives if it was debilitating to be apart from one another, but it hurt just the same to hear that he didn't want me. When we were touching, I didn't want anything more. I saw Zack give me a thoughtful look.

"Until then, you two really can't be apart. We've seen what happens."

"So he stays here with me while I work but what about tonight?" I could feel myself flush.

"Your place will be quieter."

"It's not very nice."

"That's okay. Believe me, you don't want my roommates to get in the middle of this. They're both nosy and female and would like nothing more than to tease the hell out of me and by association you too." I wasn't sure if I could handle the ribbing, good natured or not.

"Okay, my place it is."

4.

Bonded

It was interesting trying to get work done with PC in the bookstore. Like the first night, but even worse since instead of just watching him, my body wanted to be touching him all the time. The discomfort when we weren't touching wasn't as bad as it had been earlier. It seemed like as soon as my body realized he wasn't running away again, it became more comfortable with giving him a longer leash, so to speak. That's not to say that my fingers didn't seek his out the second they weren't busy, because they did, and we were nearly caught a few times kissing by customers because it felt so damn good to be in each other's arms.

PC seemed to be taking it a little more in stride than he had earlier. Maybe I was just keeping him ******* with my touch, or maybe he was hoping his ****** could figure out how to break it. I knew he was looking forward to freedom from me but as improbable and impractical as the bond was, I already found myself liking it. It felt good to be connected to him. I wasn't fully sure that I wanted it to be broken.

We didn't talk much, the shop was busy all night but I liked looking over and seeing him reading on the end of the cash register counter, coffee in his hand. He'd look up and smile when he caught me watching and as soon as I was free again I'd drift over or he would stand and come to me and before I knew it, we'd be touching, kissing, hugging each other close and breathing in slowly. I had a million questions, ones I'm not even sure he had the answers too. Plus, I wanted to get to know more about this guy that I was bonded to so strongly. It felt like we'd known each other our whole lives, but all I really knew about him was his name and what he was. I wanted more.

* * * *

Late that night I let both of us into my tiny little apartment. I was nervous as hell, I'd never had anyone up before, let alone being in my place alone with the guy that I'd somehow imprinted on. Even thinking the word made me tremble a little. We smiled shyly at each other and I dropped my keys on the front table and turned up the thermostat. I usually kept it pretty cold since I was there as little as possible, but I didn't want to be rude.

"Sorry, my place really does suck. I'm hardly ever here." He smiled at me and pulled me close.

"Didn't even notice. Since that night in the alley, I don't notice much other than you."

PC sat on my couch and held out his hand for me to join him. I did, and immediately he leaned over to kiss me. My body shuddered then relaxed, already becoming acclimated to his touch. I couldn't get over how familiar it seemed even though we'd spent less than a day in each other's company. He ran his fingers through my hair and cupped my cheek gently. I scooted closer and pulled his leg up to drape over my lap.

We need to talk.

I tried to tell myself that but it was so hard to tear my lips away from his. I wanted to keep kissing him forever. Especially when his tongue rubbed against mine and he lay down on the couch and pulled me on top of him and slipped his hands under my shirt to massage the muscles in my lower back and ohhh. I groaned and deepened the kiss before I finally came to my senses and pulled away. He looked hurt for a short moment, but his hurt turned into a sheepish grin and he helped me sit up.

"Sorry I attacked you. I can't seem to help it. I guess it's the bond talking but I can't keep my damn hands off of you." I reached out and touched his face then put my hand in his.

"Hey I wasn't exactly protesting. My body wants to be touching yours constantly." I smiled, and tried to look non-threatening. I knew he was still skittish. "My mind, on the other hand, knows we still need to talk about a few things."

PC sighed.

"I know."

"I guess my main question is what do you want to happen between us? I know you're going to your ******. What are you going to ask her to do?" He held my hands tighter.

"Don't take this the wrong way...well I suppose there is no good way to take it." He paused and gave me an apologetic look. "I can't do this. This bonding thing. I just can't." It did hurt.

"Is it because I'm a guy?"

"No." He shook his head and laughed softly. "You're the first guy I've ever even looked at but I've spent so much time with Zack and Noah that it didn't even cross my mind to be worried about that. It seems natural to want you."

"Then what is it?" PC looked frustrated.

"I can't feel like this about someone! Do you have any idea how angry I was when those assholes were attacking you? I didn't even know why I was angry! I just shifted in the middle of my apartment, scared the crap out of my roommates, and ran out the door. My instincts found you in that alley. I nearly tore those guys to shreds."

"So you're afraid of wanting to protect me?"

"I'm afraid of wanting you period. Of needing you. I'm afraid of feeling like I know Noah feels every time Zack's in danger. Like if something happens then he can't go on by himself. I don't want to feel like that about anyone but because of this bond, I do. About you."

"And that's what scares you."

"Yeah. It scares the **** out of me. I can't live like this."

"So it wasn't me kissing you that started it? You said you could feel me already when I was in danger."

He untangled his fingers from mine and touched my face, my lips. It made me get all melty inside. It was nearly impossible to concentrate on being rational. I nuzzled my face into his hand and kissed his palm. I could feel him tremble.

"I could feel you a long time before that. You got here in late August, right?"

I nodded.

"That's when it started. I was feeling all weird, wanting something and not knowing quite what it was."

"It happened to me too. As soon as I got here, I started feeling strange. I mean at home I always wanted something to happen but it wasn't so unbearable- and it got worse after I saw you. I thought I wanted adventure, but it was really you, wasn't it? You were what my body was missing all along." He nodded.

"And when I kissed you?"

"I don't know what happened. I guess that cemented it or something. I wish I could give you a better answer. Don't feel bad, though. If you hadn't kissed me I probably would have kissed you in about two more seconds. I've never wanted anything so much in my life."

"Me neither."

Up to the first message Down to the last message
I grinned at him and leaned over to kiss him again. Just a simple brush of his lips was enough to set my ***** boiling. It took a huge surge of willpower to pull away. I continued after sitting in breathless silence for a few moments. "But I don't think it was the actual kiss. Something happened when we were kissing. I could feel it. It's like we accepted the bond and let whatever was happening take over." He nodded

"I know what you mean. I felt it too. And now you're stuck with me. Well until my ****** gets here at least. That reminds me. I haven't even called her yet." He pulled his phone from his pocket. I leaned closer until my head was resting on his shoulder. He shifted, and at first I thought he was trying to push me off but then my head slid down his chest and landed in his lap. He gave a satisfied grunt and sank his fingers into my hair rubbing my scalp gently.

"Hey, mom?" I felt his voice rumble against the back of my head. He kept fiddling with my hair, my ear, the line of my jaw. Little pleasure shivers crashed all through my body. I could hear the quiet hum of a female voice on the other side of the line. PC's hand was *********** me. "I think I have a problem."

He outlined the situation starting with the restless feelings and ending with the fact that we were together right then and it was very painful for us to separate. I could hear her next words very clearly.

"I'll be on the next plane."

* * * *

It was awkward that night, deciding how we were going to *****. I wanted to be near him, I knew he wanted it too but it we were essentially strangers-bond or not, we didn't know each other's last names or favorite TV shows or how we liked our eggs.

We decided to be rational. That it would be a bad idea if we shared a bed, that we wouldn't be able to keep from doing something that we would definitely regret-something that might make the bond stronger. So he said he'd ***** on the couch and I would take my bed across the room. It was a calm mature decision but so very stupid. I don't know what we thought was going to happen in the same room but separated by a few feet of freezing cold floor.

We didn't even last an hour.

I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling and listening to him breathe. I didn't think he was a*****. He probably knew I wasn't a***** either. My skin felt like it was pulsing, my body inching closer and closer to the edge of the bed. Closer to him. I wanted to be with him so badly. I swear the side of me that was closest to him was more content that the side facing away. It was getting ridiculous. I knew he wouldn't make the first move across the boundaries I'd so clearly set. It had to be me. It's a bad idea. No, it's fine, I'll just have to control my, uh, needs. I'll hold him. Nothing else.

It didn't matter how many ways I told myself it was stupid to go to him. I wasn't going to be able to ***** without him. I needed him. Trying to be silent, I got up. If he's *****ing then I'll tiptoe back to my bed and he'll never know that I caved.

He wasn't a*****.

He held out his hand from the couch and I grabbed it pulling him up and against me. My body sang. I pulled him towards my bed.

I'm just going to hold while we *****.

I dragged his shirt off and smashed my lips to his.

Oh, God! Mmmm...Just one kiss. I promise.

He yanked on the hem of my shirt. It got stuck on my head for a second but I helped him until our bare chests were rubbing together. We kissed for a long time, standing in the middle of my little cold studio. His skin against mine was so warm and smooth and amazing. My head was spinning when we finally came up for air.

"What are we doing?" I moaned. He put his fingers on my lips.

"Shhhh. Just kiss me."

I did. And it felt so damn good.

We walked backwards kissing, until my knees connected with my bed and we collapsed on top of it. PC pulled the covers back and shimmied under them holding the blanket up for me.

"I tried to be noble," He murmured. The sincerity of his voice was tempered by a wicked smile.

"Yeah, me too. I wasn't going to get a second's rest with you across the room, though. I need you next to me."

"You feel so good." PC pulled me close and slipped the tips of his fingers under the waist of my pajama pants to caress the sensitive skin of my lower back. I squirmed and laughed, turning slightly.

"Holy crap! Turn around and let me see that." My tattoo. I'd forgotten. I turned over, feeling a little embarrassed. Was he going to think I was stupid? I felt gentle fingers tracing the branches from my hip all the way up my side to the back of my shoulder blade.

"This thing is awesome. Did it hurt?"

I chuckled under my breath. "Like hell. I don't exactly have a lot of padding."

He kept tracing the tree up and down, soothing his hands over it.

"It's beautiful. It fits you perfectly. What kind of tree is that?"

"Rowan. It's my middle name."

PC's hand stilled on my back.

"It's under the Rowan tree." His whisper was barely audible.

"What?"

"I've been having dreams since I was a little kid. Different dreams where I was running frustrated and scared looking for something I knew I needed but could never find. Those words were always in my dreams, whispered in the background. What I was looking for would be found under the Rowan Tree. It never made any sense until now."

I turned facing him.

"And I always knew that what I was looking for would be in New York. I've wanted to come here for as long as I could remember. I thought it was the writing thing, but it wasn't, was it?"

"Oh, god Miles. The bond didn't start forming when you got here."

I shook my head slowly.

"No, it didn't. I think we may have been looking for each other our whole lives."

* * * *

He was shaking violently. I was trembling too. But it made sense. The whole thing made sense. As soon as I said it out loud I realized it was the truth. I'd been able to sense PC's presence since I was a little boy. There was probably even more to it than that since there were still things about myself I couldn't explain, but I didn't think it was the time to get into all of the different implications of what was between us. I stroked his curls and murmured in his ear. I didn't say anything, just made comforting sounds that I hoped helped him.

"Thanks, Miles. I don't mean to be weird, I'm just scared. I mean I need to you so much, I feel it getting stronger. And to realize how long we've been bonded to each other-How are we going to break something that's been part of us since we were little kids?"

I don't want to break it. I want you forever.

The errant impulse nearly made me ***** on my words. "I don't know. Hopefully your ****** will know what to do."

"Hopefully."

PC gave me a long, slow, intimate kiss. I loved it, loved kissing him back, but knew I should stop before I ended up even more hurt at the end than I already would be. His actions were confusing the hell out of me. He kept telling me he didn't want to be bonded-couldn't stand the closeness, but then he'd kiss me like a lover and hold me until I was lightheaded from pleasure.

It's the bond talking, not him. He doesn't really want you.

It was impossible for me to distinguish between the bond and real emotions, though, even in myself. I couldn't decide if everything I was feeling for him was just from some exterior ***** or if I was starting to want him on my own. I hoped the second wasn't true. If so than breaking whatever was holding us together wouldn't matter a damn bit. I'd still need him and it would hurt like hell when he walked away. I pushed the distressing thoughts from my mind and tried to enjoy the feeling of the warm body cuddled up next to mine.

PC wrapped his arms around me and slipped his leg between my thighs. With our chests together, our legs tangled up and his gentle fingers tracing the branches of the tree that grew up my back I felt content. A little bit scared by what was between us, but happy and comfortable all the same. It wasn't awkward, like I imagined falling a***** with someone for the first time could be. It felt like we'd been doing it forever.

"This is nice," PC murmured. I hadn't expected him to say anything.

My stomach warmed and I nodded. "It is nice. It feels natural."

He chuckled softly.

"Of course it does. Think of how many years our bodies have wanted to do this. At least for now, we're home to each other."

Home. The word made happy tingles swirl up my body. I ignored the 'for now' part. Even the idea of being separated from him made me sick.

He kissed me again, lips finding mine in the dark. I touched his skin, velvety soft and so very warm. His tongue slipped into my mouth and he moaned when I cupped his butt to pull him closer. Even though I touched him over the fabric of his boxers, the possession in that one gesture was enough to make my heart pound. I wanted to hold him close to me for as long as I could. Feeling bold, drowning in the texture of his skin against mine, I slipped my hands under the waist of his boxers to do it again, this time on bare warm skin. PC's breath hitched in his throat, then he moaned and rolled his hips against mine.

"I want you," He whispered his mouth still brushing mine. "I know it's probably stupid of me to even think it. We don't have to actually- but I need to feel you so bad."

"I know. Me too."

I pulled my hands from his boxers, but only far enough to get a hold of the waistband so I could pull it down. He shimmied out of his boxers and pulled on my pajamas until I could kick them off my feet. I wanted to tell him I'd never done this before but my mouth went dry the second our bodies touched again. All of a sudden I could barely breathe.

"So good," PC moaned. "I had no idea it would feel like this."

I managed to smile through the pleasure haze. "I doubt it usually does," I murmured into his neck and arched my hips against him. His cock hard and hot pressed against mine. I shuddered and curved my hand around his butt again yanking him as close as I could get. He leaned back and I made a small sound of protest before he buried his tongue in my mouth.

"I have to touch you," He breathed when we

pulled apart.

I nodded desperately.

The sensation of his gentle fingers, warmed from my body and curling around my aching erection nearly made me shoot off the bed. I groaned and sank my teeth into his neck. He started stroking, tugging on my flesh, rolling his hips into mine at the same time. I nearly screamed with frustration when he stopped.

"You got any lube?" He asked, his voice gruff. I stilled and looked at him. He turned red. "I'm not going to-I'd never, I mean, it'll make it easier. Better for you." I knew what he had meant, but it was fun to watch him sputter for a second.

I leaned over and pulled a small tube from my nightstand. Then with a smile I handed it to him. He warmed the liquid in his hands before reaching between us again. I kissed him and groaned against his lips at the warm moist sensation of his hand around me.

"That feels amazing," I whispered and pushed my hips into his hand, increasing the pressure. I wanted to touch him too, to show him how good it could be between us. To make him want like I did. I opened my thighs and his hips slipped between them. He ground into me, both of us gliding slickly through his hand.

"Miles, god, what do I do? I want more."

I started to laugh softly, but it turned into a hiccup when I drew my breath in sharply at the luscious slip and slide of us moving together.

"Just hold me."

He moved his arms to cradle my head, and I grabbed at his hips, pulling them close and setting a rhythm. I wanted more too but I wasn't ready. We weren't ready. We needed to...ohhh. My mind slipped away completely as he spread his legs between mine, opening me more to the heat of his body and crushed his lips to mine in a hard kiss. His eyes opened in shock and I could feel his body shaking as tremors racked him.

He shouted into the pillow and I felt the warm rush of his release on my stomach. He reached between us and grasped me once more-and with two soft strokes I was gone, burying my face in his shoulder and biting and trying not to cry out.

We lay there stunned for long minutes before he finally slid to the side of me and wrapped his arm around my waist. He made a face when his skin encountered rapidly cooling wetness.

"Sorry," He mumbled, and grabbed his boxers to clean me off.

I smiled. "It's okay. It felt really good." I felt shy all of a sudden. He looked like he felt awkward too.

"I'm sure you can guess but I've, uh, never done anything like that before."

I'd figured since he all but told me he was straight.

"Yeah, me neither."

"Wait, were you into girls before this? Oh no, I'm sorry-" I cut him off with a kiss.

"No, I wasn't straight, just really shy. I've gotten a few offers, but they weren't what I wanted."

"To be completely honest, I wasn't exactly a raging hormonal straight guy. I was telling the truth when I said I'd never noticed a guy, but I hadn't really noticed women either. You're the first person I've ever wanted like this."

"Me too-well except for Zack." I grinned. PC bolted up.

"My Zack?"

I laughed and pulled him down, cuddling him close in my arms. "I think he's Noah's Zack, but yeah him. He's pretty hot. I had a huge crush on him at the beginning of the school year. Funny how it's vanished completely."

PC looked mulish.

"You sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure." I chuckled again. "Hey what do you care anyway? After this bond is broken you'll take off. I should be able to crush on whoever I want...not like I could compete with Noah god of gorgeousness anyway."

PC made a low growling noise in the back of his throat. The hair on the back of my neck rose. But the shivers were pleasurable.

"You're mine," he grumbled, low and serious. I felt like those words branded me more than any tattoo. Emotional tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. I had to lighten the mood before I lost it.

"Of course I'm yours, silly. At least until your ****** gets here."

He made a half growl half grunt noise and tugged on my arm until it was wrapped around his waist. He turned and wriggled closer until we were connected from our shoulders all the way to our toes. My body shivered and settled again. We fit together so perfectly. I inhaled contentedly, loving his skin and the clean smell of his sweat. Then I cuddled my face to the back of his head. And I'll be damned if it wasn't there...the fait sweet fragrance of coconut.

* * * *

I woke to the insistent vibrating of my cell phone. It took me a while to come out of my warm ****** haze. It had been months since I slept so comfortably- if ever. I leaned over to get my phone from the bedside table and PC tightened his arm around my waist, pulling me back against him. Sometime during the night we'd shifted so that he was holding me, his arms and legs sprawled across my body. I shouldn't have been surprised by how amazing it felt.

The message on my phone screen made me laugh:

Are you alive?

Hey Lisa. I'm fine now...well sort of. You'll never believe what's going on.

There was a long pause. I snuggled back into PC's arms and closed my eyes, thinking maybe she'd reply later. The buzzing on my chest after a few minutes woke me up from a half doze.

I'm glad you're fine. Now I can come **** you!! What do you mean sort of okay? WTF is going on?

There was no way I could explain over text message.

I'm working at three. Come to the store. There's way too much to explain over the phone.

You better tell me everything.

I will...Jeesh! I'm going to go back to ***** for a minute. I slept like crap for the past few days.

Ok. C u at three.

I dropped my phone on the floor next to my bed and flopped back into the pillows.

"Why the hell are you awake?" PC's ***** grumbly voice rumbled against my side.

"My phone woke me up. A friend was texting to see if I was okay."

He pulled me close, smiling with his eyes closed and brushed a soft kiss across my shoulder.

"Are you okay?"

I grinned and climbed on top of him squirming against his naked skin.

"You tell me. Do I feel okay?"

He moaned.

"Yes. You feel amazing." He squeezed his eyes closed. "Jesus Miles, we shouldn't be doing this. It's probably going to make the bond stronger."

I put my finger on his lips.

"Shhhh. Just kiss me."

* * * *

We got to the store around two thirty. It gave me a half hour until my shift, supposedly to get ready, but in actuality I spent it walking around the store with PC, pointing out all of my favorite books.

Turned out we had similar taste. He wasn't much into the paranormal stuff, with vampires and werewolves-said it was annoying when they got all the details wrong. But he liked sci-fi and said that even before I worked at the store, he'd spent long hours in there with his head buried in the books. It was only in the recent months that he'd stopped coming because he felt so strange in his skin that he couldn't sit still long enough to read.

"I'm glad you came in the night I saw you," I murmured, straightening a row of books out of habit.

"Something told me I wanted to be here. I knew the second I walked in who you were. I spent the whole night watching you. I wanted to tell you that I was the wolf so bad, but I figured you'd think I was nuts."

I smiled and touched his nose with my fingertip. "Obviously not. As soon as I saw your eyes, I knew it was you. They're so beautiful."

He leaned in and brushed a kiss across my lips.

"I should probably stop doing that, but I really don't want to," PC whispered.

"Then don't."

I kissed him again, backing him into the bookshelf, my arms on either side of his head. I let my tongue slip inside and rub against his. Soft warm fingers crept under my shirt to rest on the small of my back. I trembled. His taste was ********, exciting and newly familiar. I wanted more. Last night had been nowhere near enough.

"Miles are you in here?" The familiar voice rounded the corner to the row PC and I were hiding behind. "Oh," She sounded a little embarrassed. Nowhere near as embarrassed as I felt.

"Uh, Lisa, this is PC. PC, Lisa." I could feel my face heat up. Not exactly how I wanted that introduction to go.

"What the hell's going on? First you have crazy encounters with a wolf in the street and we spend days looking for said wolf, then you disappear and say you're sick when you're not, and now I find you in the store out of nowhere making out with a boy-an adorable boy I have to say- but still. What's the deal?"

"Lis, PC is the wolf."

She regarded me silently for a few long stressful moments.

"Okay, we're sitting now. Major explanation time."

PC gave me a wary look and I nodded. Ha. We were doing the silent talking-just like Zack and Noah.

"Let's sit. You guys want coffee?" They both shook their heads. "How to start...Do you remember how I said I had the feeling that the wolf was part human? It sounded nuts, but I was right. You didn't see him, but look at PC's eyes. They are exactly the same when he's a wolf. That's

how I knew."

"Have you seen him, uh, change?"

"We call it phasing," PC answered. "Miles hasn't seen me do it, but I'd show him. We just haven't had the chance. I'd show you too."

Lisa's eyes grew wide.

"Really?"

"Sure." PC chuckled.

"Miles, go lock the door. Put the 'out to lunch' sign up. I've gotta see this."

I jumped up and headed for the door, locking it and pulling down the shades, quickly flipping the sign to say that we would be back soon. I was eager to see PC's wolf again too. I wanted to feel the soft gold fur and feel his presence.

"I have to take my clothes off or they'll get shredded." He looked a little embarrassed.

Lisa scoffed. "It's nothing I've never seen honey. Go for it."

He stripped quickly, looking vaguely embarrassed. As soon as he was down to his boxers he crouched. His form glowed slightly for a few seconds then started changing. The change was fast, I couldn't see his skin turn to fur, or his legs and arms change shape, but there was no magic trick. It was obviously him. Less than two seconds after he crouched, standing there in PC's place was the huge gold wolf. Even though I expected it to happen, I was awestruck.

My mouth was wide open, I'm sure. Lisa's was too.

"He's gorgeous," She whispered. She walked slowly towards PC. I could have sworn the wolf was smiling. He sat in front of her and regarded her with his huge gold eyes. "You're right, Miles. The eyes are the same. Can he understand us?"

I nodded and sank cross-legged to the floor.

"Hey," I murmured and held out my arms.

He trotted over to me and walked right into them. I wrapped myself around him, inhaling the sweet coconut smell of his fur. He nuzzled my neck with his wet nose and gave the curve of my ear a gentle lick. I shivered.

Lisa was standing behind him with her arm outstretched.

"Go ahead," I whispered.

She drifted to her knees, and kneeling, she reached out and sank her fingers into PC's warm fur. It was impossible to resist him. I don't know how long we sat there before PC stood, and grabbing his folded jeans and shirt in his mouth ambled behind a row of bookshelves. When he came back out he was pulling on his T-shirt.

"I like being the wolf," He grinned. "Everybody pets me."

Lisa and I both laughed, breaking the solemnity of the earlier minutes.

"You smell nice too," She told him with a smile. "Like coconuts."

PC made a grumbling noise.

"Leila shampoos me sometimes when I'm in my wolf

form. I hate being dirty. She always uses her damn girly soap, though. It's hard to be menacing and tough when I smell like Victoria's Secret."

Lisa and I both laughed at that.

"Who's Leila?" I asked.

"One of my nosy roommates. You'll meet her tonight probably." He glanced at Lisa. "She's

not a huge fan of getting up early." A vampire...

"PC, she knows so much. Can't we just tell her the whole thing?"

Lisa rolled her eyes.

"You better. Start with the beginning."

So we did. We told her about lycans and werewolves, vampires and witches and hunters. I heard about PC's family in Europe and the story of Noah's crazy vampire hunting ***********. There was so much to know. I realized that what was telling us was probably nowhere near even scratching the surface. Lisa and I spent much of the conversation with our jaws on the table. When we got to the part about Zack and Noah she actually laughed out loud.

'Wait? Hottie Zack is a vampire?" She screeched and nearly fell over in her chair.

"Yeah, and his boyfriend too. And wait till you see that one. He's like a Michelangelo or something."

"And your roommates are vampires?"

PC nodded.

"Leila is Persian. She's very old, but you'd never be able to tell. She looks and acts about twenty-fits into modern times really well. Amanda is Noah's cousin. Noah and Zack turned her last summer because crazy grandpa shot her and she was ******** to death. It was their only choice. She's nineteen and a total brat. I love her though. Leila's boyfriend isn't a vampire-yet. He's a witch, but I think he's considering being turned."

We both nodded, unable to think of what to say. Lisa finally spoke.

"The only thing you left out is what's happening between you two. Is this just puppy love?" She grinned at her own little joke.

"Not exactly," I murmured. PC and I exchanged a look. "Have you heard of imprinting? Like what, uh, wolves do?"

She rolled her eyes.

"What girl hasn't? Hunky shirtless werewolf can't help but to want to be near you-Wait a second. You two?"

We nodded. I tried not to smile, but it was impossible to hold back.

"Since when?"

"We think since always," PC answered. "We've been unknowingly drawn to each other since we were little kids and living on the opposite side of the country. Miles always wanted to come here."

"And PC used to have dreams about Rowan trees and looking for something he needed." Lisa's eyes widened. "I think there's more too. Didn't you say you started phasing when you were eighteen, and you had a hard time with it because you kept getting angry?" PC nodded. "That was an awful year for me too. I was always fighting with my ****** over nothing, getting these flashes of weird anger, and I spent a ton of time in my room with the curtains drawn. I don't know what my problem was. It could have been me affecting you; it could have been the other way around. Who knows?"

"So you think we can feel each other's emotions, like Zack and Noah can?"

"Yeah. I think we probably can. We haven't tried to do it consciously, but we've been probably been communicating for years."

"Wow..." Lisa glanced back and forth between us.

"The first time I saw him as a human, the other night after you left, I just walked around the counter and kissed him. I didn't say a single word. It was like I couldn't control my body, I had to touch him."

"And it felt so familiar," PC added. "I'd never done anything like that before but I felt like I'd kissed you a thousand times."

"You've never kissed anyone else?" I felt my heart melt a little.

"No. I've spent most of the years since I was old enough either worrying about why I wasn't phasing or trying to figure out how to control it once I started. And then there's the charming side effect of looking like one of Peter Pan's lost boys. Wouldn't exactly land me a hottie at the bar."

I grinned at him.

"You don't look that young. Plus, I think you're pretty hot. Isn't that all that matters?"

He leaned over and kissed me softly, right in front of Lisa.

"Yeah," he murmured.

"You guys are fucking adorable."

The bell over the door rang and I started.

Crap, forgot about customers!

* * * *

There was a steady stream of customers after that. They started to get on my nerves fairly quickly. I saw PC and Lisa over in the café talking and laughing. All I wanted was to be over with them but every time it looked like I was going to be able to hang out another wave of people would come in and I'd have to help them. Every excuse I could find though, I'd walk by their table, if only fun my fingers through PC's hair or touch him on the shoulder. He'd always tilt his head up and smile at me, cover my fingers with his hand, rub his cheek against my arm.

His touches were oxygen, necessary to my survival. I touched him because I had to...but I was starting to want to as well. And this time I could tell the difference. It wasn't that unstoppable pull that made his hair so soft under my fingers or the smattering of freckles across his nose so adorable. It wasn't the bond that made me melt every time I saw him laugh. I was starting to fall for him and I couldn't think of a worse idea.

You're going to get your damn heart broken, Miles. I sighed. There was nothing I could do about it.

As worried as I was, I still couldn't wait for my shift to end. The unusually busy night had kept me away from him for far too long. After a few hours Lisa had to go to her own job, waiting tables at a local Italian restaurant. PC grabbed a book and curled up in one of our squishy armchairs to wait for me. I watched him read, smiling to myself, and rang people up quickly, willing the clock to move faster so I could close the store and kiss him until we couldn't breathe.

When I finally ushered the last customer out and locked the door, PC jumped out of his chair and wrapped his arms around my neck. He looked so happy to be in my arms again. I tried not to be too excited.

"That was such a long afternoon. I've been waiting to kiss you for hours."

"Me too. I nearly did, customers or not."

PC chuckled quietly, then yanked my head to his for a long deep kiss.

All he had to do was touch his lips to mine and I was lost. The slide of his tongue, the way he tugged on my hair and wiggled against me trying to get closer-there was no such thing as enough.

I wanted him and I was going to keep wanting him even if he ran out of my life. I didn't think there was anything the lycans could do to change that. It was probably a good thing we were in the bookstore or else we would have ended up naked again saying 'we shouldn't be doing this' but doing it anyway. I didn't think if it happened again that we'd stop at what we had done the night before.

When we finally broke apart, PC cupped my face in his hands, pulling the soft pads of this thumbs across my cheekbones.

"It keeps getting better, doesn't it?" I nodded, my throat thick. Every kiss was softer, sexier, more binding than the last. "I'm going to miss kissing you-you know, when this is over."

I laid my forehead against his.

"Maybe even if we're not bonded...we don't have to be strangers. I'd miss kissing you too."

He sighed. "Let's see what happens. We may not want to have anything to do with each other."

At that I laughed.

"PC, I'm still going to like you! It's not like I'm compelled to keep touching you but I hate your guts."

"True," He smiled. "So Zack texted me when you were helping that last customer. I got a bit distracted by kissing you. He said there's movie night at my place in about an hour. You want to go? You'd get to meet the whole motley crew."

"Of course I want to go. Let me close out my register and we can walk. It's pretty close right?"

He nodded.

The walk over was fun. Even though it was windy and a little cold, I was warmed through by the way PC took my hand in his and put them both in his jacket pocket. The smile he gave me when he did that was so sweet and hesitant it made my stomach quiver.

I was a little worried about walking into that

whole group of people who knew each other so well. I only sort of knew Zack, and I'd met Noah all of one time. I didn't know who else was even going to be there. I was in a strange position, being wanted and not wanted at the same time. I didn't know if PC's hesitation accepting my existence would be readable to the others.

"Do you think everyone will like me?" I knew I was fretting but I wanted some reassurance.

PC rolled his eyes.

"What's not to like? You're really nice and have big dreamy eyes and you're an amazing kisser."

I laughed but liked that he'd noticed all the same.

"I somehow don't think that'll impress anyone other than you."

"I don't know. You may have to watch out for Leila."

I hoped he was kidding.

"Do they know what's going on?"

"Not sure if Zack and Noah told them. If not than I will. It's only fair. I left yesterday evening looking like hell and come back tonight fine and attached to you. They're bound to wonder what the hell happened. Especially when my ****** shows up tomorrow."

Tomorrow. I might lose him tomorrow. My gut clenched. I was just getting to know him-and liking everything I found out. It wasn't fair.

"What time is your mom getting in?"

"Her flight lands around ten, she said. I'm guessing she'll be at the apartment around noon."

I nodded but didn't ask any more questions that I wasn't ready to hear the answer to.

PC lived on the top floor of an old building surprisingly close to mine. Of course he did. I wondered how far the coincidences went. Did we just happen to live close by or did I pick that apartment somehow because it was in the right place. It made me dizzy to think in circles like that. Especially when there was no way that I could ever find out the answer.

I could hear the cheerful rumble of a group of people before we even opened his door. He reached out to grab my hand, sensing my discomfort at being in a new place, and unlocked the door to his place.

"Hey PC. Hi Miles!" The first greeting was from Zack. I was so relieved to see him. He came over right away and hugged both of us. "How are you feeling today?" He murmured in my ear.

"Better," I told him and smiled. He gave me a bit of a knowing smirk and turned to greet PC as well.

"Hi Miles." The quieter greeting came from the lovely blonde vampire Noah. He too gave me a friendly smile and a big hug. I started to relax. Maybe things were going to work out well.

"Zack, what did you two tell the girls and Jason?" Pc rubbed the small of my back through my shirt.

"Not much. Noh and I figured it was your deal. All Leila knows is that you've been with a 'boy' since you left last night. You could've scraped her off the ceiling with a spatula when I told her that much."

PC laughed, looking genuinely amused instead of uncomfortable. Maybe he'd really been telling the truth when he said that being with a guy wasn't a big deal. He didn't let go of me for a single second as I was herded into the room to meet the others.

The dark and tiny Leila was indeed a ***** to be reckoned with. She gave me a hug and a big smacking kiss on the cheek before turning to PC right in front of me and saying that she liked my big bedroom eyes. I turned about ten shades of red.

"You'll get used to her," Zack mumbled from behind me. "It took me a while. She says that kind of stuff to all of us."

Other than Leila, the outspoken and lovely little vampire, there was Jason her boyfriend who was human but a witch, and Noah's two cousins-one a beautiful and quite tall blond vampire named Amanda, the other, Colin, a cousin from the other side of the family was a big brawny hunter that as far as I could tell was a regular human just like me.

"So what are we watching?" PC called to whoever felt like answering.

"Horror movies!" called Amanda with a grin. She plopped down on the couch next to Colin, Noah's human cousin. He had this long-suffering look on his face like she was constantly following him around. That whole little scenario was both funny and at the same time depressing. I could see myself easily following PC around after the bond was broken and he lost all draw to me. I'd look so pathetic.

I always got really scared when I watched horror movies but I didn't want to look like a big weenie either, so I kept my mouth shut and took a seat on the empty couch. I wasn't expecting PC to act all touchy-feely in front of his friends so I was surprised when he came and sat close to me and reached out to hold my hand.

"C'mere babe," He whispered and pulled me even closer. "You gotta stay close to me so I don't get scared."

I'd take any excuse I could get. Heart pounding from the softly spoken endearment, I snuggled into him, putting my head on his shoulder. I loved the way he smelled, the way his hand fit in mine, how perfect it felt to be with him. Please don't let it be over.

I still didn't like horror movies and kept my eyes squeezed closed for most of it but I couldn't say that I wasn't having one of the best nights of my life. PC had put his arm around my shoulder at the start of the movie and was playing with my hair and holding my hand and every once in a while he'd lean over to kiss my neck. I knew I was playing with fire, and probably my heart as well, but I didn't care. My body was in total bliss mode and there was no way in hell I was going to pull away from him.

When the first movie was over, everyone stood to stretch. It took me a while to come out of my little cocoon of happiness but finally I did, standing with everyone else.

"You hungry, babe?" There it was again. Babe. "We didn't really eat dinner, only a

bagel at the shop."

I shrugged. Honestly, my body hadn't had any time to worry about food.

"A little, I guess."

"Let's go look in the fridge and see what snack we can come up with." PC pulled my hand, leading me towards an arched doorway. "I really just wanted to get you in here so I could kiss you," He murmured as soon as we rounded the corner.

His quiet words made my stomach quake. He closed

the kitchen door with his foot.

PC backed me into the wall, arms on either side of my head and started dragging his lips across my neck, my jaw, the soft part of my ear. It was sweet and gentle, nuzzling little kisses here and there. It was driving me insane. Finally, I grabbed his head and slammed my lips down on his. I'd had enough *******.

We kissed for long silent minutes, the stillness only broken by soft moans and the faint sounds coming from the other room. In the back of my mind, I wondered what had happened to me in the past few days. I had been so painfully shy my entire life and here I was in this crazy situation with a guy I'd only really met the night before and I wanted to tear his clothes off and take him. I groaned and shoved my hands in his back yanking him against me and groaning into his mouth.

"A snack, huh?"

Zack's laughing voice coming from the doorway broke us apart. My face burst into flames.

"I guess I got distracted." PC didn't sound even a little bit sorry. He grinned at me. Zack laughed again.

"Well, we're about to start the second movie. If you guys want your spot back you'd better get back to the living room."

PC reluctantly scooted away from me but reached out for my hand.

"We're coming."

The movie was starting as we took our seats on the couch again. I figured our embarrassing moment was going to go pretty much unnoticed until Leila held up the remote and paused the movie. She reached out and flicked on the lamp next to her.

"All right. What the hell is going on here? Zack goes in to the kitchen to get you two, comes out looking like he's about to burst into laughter and you two look about as guilty as two people can possibly look. And PC, not that I don't think it's hot as hell, but since when are you into guys?"

PC looked at me and I shrugged.

"You were going to tell them anyway, weren't you? Now's as good a time as any."

And so he told them-the whole weird story starting with the night in the alley and ending with us being unable to be apart. I know Leila caught the flash of pain that I couldn't hide when he said his ****** was coming to break the bond. I'm pretty sure Zack and Noah did too. I shrugged internally. What was there to hide? I wanted to be with him, wanted him in every way. Yes, because my body craved his touch, but also because he made me laugh. And he had this way of smiling at me that made me feel like the only person in the world. I'm sure I looked at him that way too.

We settled on the couch for the second movie, PC absentmindedly rubbing his fingers through my hair. I closed my eyes for the beginning. It scared me and I didn't want to be up all night. I must have never opened them back up because the next thing I knew the others were getting ready to play cards and PC was shaking me and telling me it was time to go to bed.

"C'mon, baby." It's baby, now. "Let's go to bed. It's been a long time since I was up all day. I'm bushed."

I followed him meekly down the hall to his bedroom and watched while he closed and locked the door. He turned his stereo on, some quiet piano music or something.

"They get pretty loud when they're playing cards. A bunch of cheaters." He gave me a heartbreaking grin. "The music will drown them out at least a little."

I smiled back, tired and feeling a little sad. It was almost over...maybe. Unless his ****** couldn't do anything to break us. I hoped that was the case.

"I'm going to go take a shower real quick. Get comfy, okay? Take either side, I don't mind."

"Okay."

He leaned over and brushed a gentle kiss on my lips.

"Night, in case you're a***** when I get back."

"Night, PC."

I stripped to my boxers and t-shirt and crawled into PC's bed. It was way bigger than mine and a million times more comfortable. Besides, it smelled like him. I loved the way he smelled. I could spend many happy hours there with him, talking, reading, laughing, making love. Oh, Jesus. Don't even start thinking about that.

I cuddled up into the blankets inhaling happily and tried to pretend the next day was never going to come.

PC came back from his shower in a few minutes, damp skinned and smelling fresh. I mumbled a little when he crawled into bed and my body turned to his naturally. He tugged at my shirt until I lifted my arms and let him pull it over my head.

"Wanna feel you," He whispered in my ear. Then he pulled me against him, my back to his warm lean chest. It was heavenly. He was quiet for a few minutes and I just floated there in his arms before I felt my boxers being slid down. "Don't like these either. Need your skin."

My mind was afraid of getting hurt but my body agreed with him wholeheartedly. I lifted myself up just long enough for the last shred of fabric separating us to slide over my hips and disappear.

"Much better."

I could hear the smile in his soft mumble. I couldn't help but to wiggle my butt against him experimentally. He moaned quietly and I stopped but soon gave into the temptation to feel his hardening flesh rub against me again.

"You'd better stop that if you want to get any ***** at all tonight," he growled. His hand slipped up my chest to play with my nipples.

"Sorry, I can't help it." I wasn't really sorry. I doubted he was either. He moaned and started nibbling on my neck. "Want you, PC."

The words were out before I could even think of what I meant by it. I did want him though. I wanted everything.

"Want you too, Miles. I wish we could." He pushed his hips into me. I could feel the head of his amazing cock bumping up against my entrance. God, I needed him there.

"Why can't we? It's just one night. I want you to be the first person inside of me." He made a wonderfully possessive growling noise and bit down on my shoulder.

"The idea of anyone else inside of you ever makes me want to tear my bed to shreds. We can't, though. I'm afraid the bond will be impossible to break if we cross that line."

Exactly what I was hoping for.

It's not like I was trying to trick him. I just wanted him to need me enough not to care.

I made a keening sound of frustration and turned to face him. Shoving my thigh between his, I pulled his leg up to wrap around my hip and yanked him in as close as possible. Between the grinding slickness of our erections sliding together and the way I'd attached my mouth to the side of his neck, he didn't have a chance in hell of holding on to sanity. Mine was flying out the window pretty rapidly as well.

"Fuck, Miles. You feel so goddamn good. Why do I have to Want. You. So. Bad?" Each word was punctuated by a slippery thrust of his hips into mine.

"The same reason I want you," I whispered in his ear, licking the rim and breathing into it. "Because we were made for each other."

I took his hand and slipped two of his fingers into my mouth. Then I pushed his hand between my legs until those slippery wet fingers were right against my entrance.

"Please, PC? I just want to feel you inside of me. Any way I can."

He groaned and smashed his lips against mine. He pushed gently with his finger until it slid into me. It stung a little but I didn't care. I was in heaven. PC broke his lips from mine and started murmuring, a litany of soft love words against my neck.

"So soft, so hot, so fucking amazing." I arched my back and pushed his finger in further.

"More," I moaned. "Give me more."

He withdrew and entered with two fingers. I gasped at the intrusion, then pushed hard trying to get him in as far as I could. He curled his fingers and rubbed, hitting a spot inside of me that made my vision go black. I wasn't stupid, I'd read enough that I knew what was happening. It didn't mean I was prepared. I cried out and threaded my fingers into his hair, pulling hard. PC had been kissing his way down my neck and chest. It was soft and sweet and not nearly enough. I pulled harder on his hair.

He fastened his mouth to my nipple and bit down.

"Yes," I cried "So good!" And I rolled my hips to increase the pressure inside.

I could feel his breath come in short pants against my wet nipple. Shivers exploded down my spine. My hands roamed all over him, touching every centimeter of skin I could find.

PC's mouth drifted lower, coming closer every second to my straining aching cock. I wanted him there so bad but I was afraid if he even touched it I'd be gone. I was right.

He licked a long soft wet lick up the underside of my erection, ending with the sensitive skin underneath the head. Then grasping me in his free hand, he slipped me into the wet warmth of his mouth. I bucked and moaned and rode his fingers pushing my erection further into the paradise of his mouth. He groaned in his throat. The vibration was just too much. I shoved a pillow against my face and screamed, coming so hard and so fast that I nearly blacked out.

We were frozen in place, shaking and panting. His hand was still inside of me; his forehead was resting on my quivering stomach.

Finally, he drew his fingers out gently and gave my stomach a sweet soothing kiss. Then he crawled up and flopped next to me drawing my sweaty body up next to his.

"Holy *****" He laughed slowly, his breath catching in his throat.

"No kidding."

He picked up his t-shirt from the ground and wiped us off then lay down next to me and flung his leg over my hips. I went to reach between his legs.

"Don't you want me to-?"

He shook his head.

"Are you kidding? I came so hard from watching you scream that I'm not sure I'll ever recover."

I smiled, and let my head flop back on the pillow. I was happy for the moment, PC in my arms, our skin touching, our bodies satisfied by the closeness.

I only hoped it could last.

Unbreakable

A few hours later, I heard the door to PC's room open. I'd been ******** soundly, head tucked into the comfortable crease of PC's shoulder. The noise startled me, and I nearly sat up before I realized that I definitely didn't want the blankets to fall away.

"Night guys." It was only Zack. I breathed easier.

"You woke me up you jerk. I was having the nicest dream." PC's ****** voice made his chest rumble under my hand. He wiggled a little and stroked my back, kissing me on the top of my head. Wonder what he was dreaming about...

"Well you can be glad it was me and not Leila. She was all for coming in here to see what you two were up to a few hours ago-surprised she didn't whip out her camera actually." PC made a ******* sound and Zack laughed. "I'm just glad she doesn't live at my place!"

"Maybe I'll send her over there. You do have that empty bedroom."

"You're hilarious." Zack hesitated. I thought he'd left before he spoke again. "Night Miles." He was quiet, but I could hear the smile in his voice. Part of me was embarrassed to be talking to someone while I was naked and wound around PC. My cheeks felt hot but I figured it was stupid to pretend I was asleep.

"Night, Zack. I'll see you in class on Wednesday."

He chuckled.

"Probably before that."

* * * *

When I woke the autumn sun was already high in the sky and right in my face. I groaned and pulled the sheet over my eyes, instinctively cuddling closer to the warm skin behind me.

"Sorry, babe. Forgot to close the curtains last night. Sun gets a little intense in the morning. If this wasn't the biggest room I would have switched to the other side of the hall a long time ago."

"That's okay," I mumbled and pulled the sheet even higher over my head.

My stomach fluttered and I tried to ignore it. I was still a bit ambivalent about him calling me cute little names. Sure, a huge part of me loved it...okay most of me loved it. But there was that one stubborn streak in me that rebelled against the idea of him claiming me with endearments when he was still insisting that he didn't want us to be together.

I squashed the irritated twinge and shimmied as close into his arms as I could get. He made a satisfied grumbling noise that I could feel against my back. Then he roped his arm around my waist again and kissed my neck.

"It's nice to wake up to you," He murmured. Okay, damn it, that's it.

"PC, you can't say that kind of stuff to me." My voice was quiet but serious.

"What do you mean?" He sounded hurt. I was afraid to turn and look at him. I knew I'd cave.

"I mean, your ****** is going to be here in what, an hour? And your plan is to tell her you don't want this with me and to break apart whatever made us like this. It's not fair to act like you like it when you don't."

He sighed and kissed the back of my neck again.

"Miles, I do like it. Way too much. Every single minute I spend with you I find myself sinking in further, wanting to be with you always, needing to touch you constantly, getting to know you better and liking everything I'm finding out."

I turned to face him. I'm sure I looked bewildered and hurt and hopeful all at the same time. I tried to hold in my emotions but I didn't have enough experience to pull it off.

"Then why do you want the bond to be broken? Doesn't this feel better than anything you've ever felt before?"

He closed his eyes and butted his forehead against mine gently.

"Yes. By far. Bu-wait, why did you say 'you'? Don't you still want the bond to be broken too?"

I ducked my head into his chest and shook it miserably. He lifted my chin until I was looking at him.

"What happened?"

"I don't know. At first I was like you, thinking that this felt nice but it made our lives impossible. Then slowly I started to like being connected. I thought it was the bond taking over, but it's more. Everything you said about getting to know me, liking me as a person. I'm feeling it too. I guess I just don't have as much of a problem caring like that about

someone."

"Fuck."

That one softly spoken word said it all.

"Baby-" He started. I looked at him silently. "Sorry. Miles. God, this sucks. My impulses are telling me the same thing yours are telling you. I'm loving being close to you, needing you, wanting to protect you. I can't live like this though. I don't know how to explain it. I mean, I'm a hunter. Do you know what I do? I chase bad vampires and werewolves and troublemakers of all sorts. I'm in danger all the time. I've never planned on being with anyone-having someone who cared about me. Never planned on having anyone to worry about, anyone who was waiting for me to come home."

"Too late for that, you big jerk." I tried to smile. "Your friends already care about you. I'm sure they worry too."

"They do, but it's not the same. If something

happened to me, they'd be sad but their lives would go on. And that's the way it should be. The way I feel about you right now-my life would be over if something happened to you. I can't have anyone feeling like that about me."

"Too late for that too." I said it quietly. I meant it.

"See. That's why my ****** has to break this! I'm not saying I want you out of my life. I would miss you already. I just don't think we should be so fucking important to each other that nothing else matters."

"But Zack and Noah aren't bonded. They just love each other and it's like that for them. What happens if you fall in love? Wouldn't it be the same?"

He shook his head. "I'm never going to fall in love like that. It would be just as bad as this."

The pain was quick and slicing. I realized how much I wanted him to fall for me. How easily I was falling for him. I wanted the love that Zack and Noah had with PC. I hated that I wanted it because I'd never have it.

"Let's get dressed. We better be ready for your mom when she gets here."

He gave me a small sad look and tried to hold on to me when I wiggled away from him.

"Miles, you know if I was going to be with anyone like that, it would be you. I just can't. Not with anyone."

Like a million other commitment phobes hadn't said those exact words to the person who was hoping they would be the one who was different.

"Doesn't change anything, PC. Let me go. I want to take a shower."

The look on his face sucked. Like I was the one rejecting him. I immediately felt awful.

"There are towels in the hall closet. My shampoo and conditioner are in the red bottles. I'd stay the hell away from the other stuff. Smells like chicks." His voice was small and sounded hurt.

"PC, what do you expect me to do? I can't be all snuggly with you and then hear you tell your ****** to fix it so you don't want me anymore. It hurts too much. I'm trying to protect myself."

"I know. I hate it though. Even thought I don't want to want you, I do. I guess I know how it feels for you when I say I want the bond to be broken. Just go take a shower, okay?" Was he fighting tears? The idea of Mr. Tough I can't care about anyone PC crying over me made me melt. I almost crawled back into bed with him. Almost.

Be smart, Miles. Instead of getting back in bed where I wanted to be I moped out into the cold hallway and got a towel out of the closet before closing myself in the white and black tiled bathroom.

The smell of his shampoo didn't help me feel rational. Neither did the coconut body wash that I spent a few minutes inhaling.

What was going to happen to me? Every time I thought of walking away from him, it hurt. Like it had those three awful days when I couldn't even move. It was a little weird that I was okay being in the shower alone and not touching him. Maybe because I knew he was safe in the next room and he wasn't going anywhere. It was only when I contemplated the idea of being away from him for good that my body started to react.

Interesting...

I came back to the room to find PC sitting on the edge and looking out the window. He looked a little lost, like he'd been sitting like that the whole time I was gone. I sank onto the bed next to him quietly and pulled his hand into my lap.

"Does love hurt like this?" He asked me quietly.

"I don't know. Probably."

"It sucks."

"Doesn't have to. It doesn't hurt when we're

together."

He sighed. "I know."

Just then the distinct rattle of a key in the lock rattled through the silent apartment.

"Mom's here. Let's go get this over with." He stood and held out his hand for me. I took it willingly, needing the comfort. My body was starting to panic at the thought of being separated from him. I could feel him trembling too.

His ****** was lovely. Youthful and distinctly European looking. She came in and gave him a long hard hug before turning to look at me.

"Hello, darling," She said before pulling me into a hug as well. I was a little surprised, but it felt good. Weirdly enough like family. I supposed it made sense.

"Mom, this is Miles. He's my-"

"I know. I could feel it already from the hallway. There's no need to check any further. Your bond is real and very strong. There's no doubt about that."

"So we've really...imprinted." He hesitated. "I'd always heard it was just a legend."

"No, it happened in my town when I was a young girl. He was nobility; she was just a farm girl-human like Miles. It didn't matter. The bond is rare and therefore respected and honored no matter what form it takes."

That last sentence made my heart speed up. I could see PC's eyes widen a little. The next question seemed to stick in his throat.

"How do we break it, Mom?"

"Break what, darling?"

"The bond, the imprinting-whatever you want to call it. We, well I want to break it. We can't live like this. It hurts even to be in different rooms."

She looked appalled.

"Is that why you brought me here? To sever the bond between you?"

PC nodded.

"Isn't that why you said you'd come right away-?"

"Oh, honey, I was only coming to confirm that it was real and not some sort of spell; and then to tell all of the elders that it had happened, of course. You can't break an imprinting. It's impossible."

"There has to be a way!" PC's voice was panicky.

'There isn't. Besides, we would never even if we could. It's an honor to be one chosen for the bond."

"But why me? I don't get it."

The look on PC's face said it all. His eyes, his

beautiful golden eyes, were wide with horror. He looked at me and I could see it. He felt...stuck. I couldn't stand it, being the one he didn't want.

So I took off.

I bolted through the door, ignoring PC shouting my name. It hurt too bad to be in that room. I took the stairs two at a time, sprinting despite the growing ache in my belly.

Damn it, this hurts even more!

We're stuck together and he doesn't want me. It was bad enough when he didn't want me and I could walk away, but now he doesn't want me and every damn step I take away from him feels like a hot knife in my guts...

I burst out the front door of his building into a cheerful fall day. The leaves were orange and yellow and crispy on the sidewalk, the sky was a brilliant burnished blue. I barely saw a thing. It's hard to see when your eyes are filled with tears.

I tried to keep going, but couldn't. It felt like there was a cement wall holding me from going any further. Damn fucking bond! For the first time since I learned about it, I actually resented being connected so closely. I wanted to escape from my ***********. I doubled over, the pain in my abdomen excruciating. Hard rough bricks scraped my back as I sank down to the ground, collapsed against the side of the building.

Only seconds later, PC burst out of the door and looked right and left, scanning for me. His face was ashen, worried and in pain. I didn't want to deal with him but had already figured out that there was no escape. Those four flights of stairs had been enough distance to tear my insides to shreds.

When he finally saw me his expression cleared and he dropped to the ground next to me, wrapping his arms around my shoulders. A few of the pedestrians gave us curious looks as they walked by, but I didn't care. My life was such a fucking mess.

"Miles, baby, don't run away from me like that again. Please?"

I jammed my fist into my eye, trying to hide the tears.

"Why the hell not? I saw the look in your eyes when your mom said our bond can't be broken. Don't tell me you weren't horrified. You don't want me, so why shouldn't I run?"

He started peppering the side of my face with kisses. As hurt and angry as I was, my body wanted to lean into his touch.

"Knock it off. You know that's not true. I do want you. That's the scary part. I was hoping I could stop wanting you so much. Doesn't look like that's going to happen." His whisper was a soft tickle against my ear.

"What the hell happened to you? Why does it freak you out so much to care about anyone?"

He sighed. "Nothing happened to me. I wish I could blame it on some traumatic event. I'm just afraid in general, I guess. Afraid that

something will happen to hurt me. Afraid even more that I'll do something stupid and hurt you- and that you'll be stuck with me no matter what happens. I'm so sorry."

"I'm not."

I might have been sorry that he wasn't in love with the idea of us being bonded, but I wasn't sorry that we were stuck together. Not at all.

"No?" He leaned even closer and brushed a small kiss across my cheekbones. I shook my head. "C'mon. Let's go back upstairs. My mom wants to get to know her new ****"

I gave him a long measuring look.

"You're taking this awfully well all of a sudden for someone who looked like he was getting executed just a few minutes ago."

He stood and held out his hand to help me up.

"What's the point of being a big asshole about it? I literally can't push you away, and to tell you the truth, ninety-nine percent of me doesn't want to anymore. I could have a tantrum, but what would be the point? Yeah, I'm a little-" I gave him another long look. "Okay I'm a lot freaked by the whole thing, but it's real and it's not going away. I better get used to it."

I nodded slowly. He didn't want it but he was accepting it, resigning himself to the reality of it. That was a step. It was the best I could hope for at the moment.

* * * *

PC's ****** was waiting patiently when we returned. I felt a little bashful since I'd been the one to run off like a stupid little kid.

"I'm sorry," I murmured before sitting on the couch. PC sat next to me and reached out to hold my hand. He really was taking it better...

"It's okay, my dear. You were upset. My *** was being insensitive." He glared at her.

"So what happens now?"

"Well, ready for it or not, you two will be mated. For life. I've said that the bond between you cannot be broken. And it can't-not by anyone."

Way to break it gently. I half-waited for PC to freak out again but it seemed like he really had accepted it-at least on the surface. I decided to agree with her.

"We already figured out that it's probably been there our whole lives anyway," I said shyly.

"How do you know? The only other imprinted couple I've ever come across had lived in the same village their whole lives so they already knew each other." PC's ****** looked intensely interested. I realized this must be a huge deal for the lycans.

"Remember those dreams I always had, Mom? The ones where I was looking for a rowan tree?"

She nodded.

"Show her, Miles."

My cheeks turned red. Fine. I lifted my shirt to reveal the tree.

"It's a rowan tree- Rowan is his middle name. That has to mean something."

"And I've always known that I'd be happier in New York. I'm from California. I've only been

here for a few months but I've been wanting to come for years."

She smiled suddenly.

"You're from San Diego, aren't you?"

PC looked at her, eyes wide.

"How did you know that? Am I not remembering something?"

She nodded gently. "When you were a little boy, you used to constantly try to get your ****** and I to take you there. You wanted to see the ocean and the zoo. You even had a poster of the Pandas. We were never sure where the infatuation came from, but it seemed harmless enough."

"Really? I don't remember that at all."

"It makes sense." They both turned to look at me. "The pandas were always my favorite. My ****** took me there all the time when I was little."

"And when I started phasing and was mad at the world for all those months, Miles said he had an awful year then too."

"Yeah, I used to get so mad at my ******. Always her and for no rea****"

"Which was probably because I was mad at my ****** for being the rea*** I kept turning into a wolf. It's her family that I get it from. My dad was human until she turned him."

"You didn't want to be a wolf? I'd have given anything not to be ordinary."

"No, not at first. I wanted to be normal-and I didn't want to look like this forever. It would have been better if I looked older when I was eighteen, I guess."

I reached out and ran my finger over one of his silky curls.

"I already said I like how you look."

He smiled at me then, a smile full of promise, and kissed me. Right in front of his ****** he kissed me. I would have been embarrassed but she looked happy.

"How are we supposed to live like this, now that we've determined it's not going anywhere? I mean, it hurt when Miles was right outside the building. He has to go to class, I have to go hunting. What are we going to do?"

I was pretty sure I already knew the answer to that.

"I think it depends on what our intentions are when we walk away from each other. If I know you're not leaving, leaving, like if you just go to the other room, it's uncomfortable for you to go but it's okay. Tolerable. If I think you're running away, or if I run away, that's when our bodies freak out and the pain starts."

"I believe the more intimate you two are, physically and emotionally, the more comfortable your bodies will become with small separations. You'll also probably get better at communicating with each other over distances too. Especially once Miles gets turned."

"Turned?" Oh. It hadn't even occurred to me. If I was PC's mate or whatever then I'd probably have to become a...Oh my god. I was going to be a lycan. I didn't know what to think about that-other than I kind of liked it.

"I can see you already figured it out," PC murmured. "We don't have to rush into that. It's a big change-literally. You can think about it first."

"I don't mind." I said it so quietly that it was probably hard for them to hear me.

"It's not going to happen tonight, dear," PC's ****** answered. "There are preparations that need to be made. I'll need to file a petition."

"A petition?" It sounded awfully political.

"Yeah," PC interjected. "They won't let just anybody in. The Lycans are a bunch of cliquey snobs. You'll find that out soon enough. That's why I hang out with vampires."

"PC!"

He gave her an impudent grin.

"What if they don't want me?"

His ****** smiled.

"Don't worry dear. What you two have happens once in a generation, if even that often. I don't think there will be any problems getting the petition approved. Then as soon as you've become one of us you two can be mated officially."

"What exactly does that entail?"

PC blushed. Oh...that. I smiled internally. Not a problem.

"It's more than that though," He told me. "It's like a wedding-a ceremony to say that we've chosen each other. Even though in this case it was chosen for us."

A wedding.

It didn't get any more real than that. I waited to feel scared but it didn't come. The idea of being tied to PC forever felt too right to be scary.

"I'd need to tell my ******. Could she come?"

"Of course, dear. But don't worry. We have time."

"Good. She doesn't even know that I'm dating anyone yet." I turned to PC. "Are we dating?"

He laughed and slung his arm around my waist, pulling me close. "I guess if we're not it's a good time to start."

PC's ****** smiled and stood.

"I think you two have a lot to talk about and I have work to do to prepare for the petition. I'll be back tonight if you would like to meet for dinner?"

"That'd be great, Mom," PC answered.

She stepped forward and hugged us both at the same time. Then she cupped her hand around my cheek.

"I'm honored to have you become part of our family, Miles."

"Even though I'm a guy?" I was still worried about that. Her returning smile was kind.

"That doesn't matter to me at all. You are good and gentle and you look at my *** like he's the sun and the moon. I could never ask for more than that." Then she leaned over and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "I'll see you two later," She said then turned and picked up her purse to leave.

"See you later," PC told her, reaching for me. She must have heard something in his voice that I was missing.

"Pascal Charles Laurent, don't even think about it."

His face turned bright red. I had to swallow laughter.

If I wasn't mistaken, he'd just been told we had to wait for our wedding night.

Yeah freaking right.

6.

Together...Almost

PC and I decided it would be quieter to talk at my apartment. His busybody nocturnal roommates wouldn't be awake for a while, but it was better not to take a chance. He jotted a note to them, then we both got our coats and headed out into the gorgeous crisp fall day.

As soon as we were back in my apartment, PC toed off his shoes and flopped down onto my bed. It looked like he belonged there. Like he'd always been part of my place. I smiled and say down next to him running my hand under his shirt to pet the warm skin of his belly. He made a low purring sound and arched into my touch like a cat.

"Hey," I told him with a smile. "You're supposed to be a wolf, not a tabby."

He smiled contentedly. "Can't help it. I love when you touch me." He pulled his shirt off and slid under the covers. "Let's talk under here, it's nice and warm.

"Talk?" I gave him an ironic smirk. He looked a little guilty.

"Tell me you weren't thinking about it at all."

I chuckled. "You caught me." I unzipped my jacket and pulled my sweater and long sleeved t-shirt over my head. Then I crawled into the bed next to him and wrapped my arms around his waist.

"Mmmm, feels nice," he murmured and turned to kiss me. Talking is overrated anyway. "You know it's a relief that I still get to kiss you. I hadn't realized how much I was worrying about that subconsciously."

I chuckled under my breath and pinched his nipple.

"And you wanted to get rid of me. Jeesh."

He laughed too, but took the opportunity to sling his leg over my hips and nuzzle my neck. We were quiet for a few moments. I loved how it felt just to be with him.

It started slow, a few kisses on my neck, fingers trailing up and down my spine. I played with his soft pink nipples and rolled my hips against him. His hands wound themselves into my hair and tugged.

Then his lips crushed mine with blind intensity that seemed to come out of nowhere. It hadn't. I understood what he needed because I needed it too.

We rolled over and I wrapped my legs around him, arching into his body, the pressure relieving my aching cock and making me shiver with pleasure.

"I want-" I started to moan out, but couldn't finish because he attached his mouth to one of my oh so sensitive nipples and sucked hard, using his teeth. Frantic, I unbuckled his belt and yanked it away so I could to go work on the buttons of his pants. I finally got them open and sighed happily when my fingers wrapped around the smooth steel they found inside.

PC hooked his fingers into his pants and shucked them impatiently. I hummed with satisfaction when I saw all that sexy bare skin that was mine to touch. He dove for my pants too, unbuttoning them and tugging them over my hips. It was a relief to be naked with him- our bodies still craved it intensely. The feeling of him turned on and pressing against me drove me to distraction.

"So hard," I murmured. "You feel so good."

I rolled my hips again, increasing the pressure, reveling in the friction. His hand slipped behind me, cupping my ass, fingers slipping in to push gently against my entrance. I widened my legs to encourage him. He kept caressing my skin, pushing but never going inside. I felt like I was going to scream. I pushed my hips against his fingers, trying to get the pressure that he wasn't giving me.

"Impatient?" He teased, smiling. Then he kissed me softly and sucked on my neck.

"Yes, impatient. I need it."

I rolled onto my stomach and spread my legs to encourage him, waiting for his touch. The sweet kiss on the top of my spine wasn't what I expected. He started to trace my tree with his tongue, every branch getting special attention. The soft wetness wasn't enough. Or maybe it was too much. I couldn't think. I could barely keep from moaning aloud. His kisses continued down my spine, making me squirm and arch my back.

"So beautiful," he whispered as he followed his lips downward with one curious fingertip.

He kissed and licked his way onto my cheeks, running his fingernails lightly over them. My whole body shivered and I arched into his touch again. I started babbling, turned on to the point of near insanity.

"Please...need to feel...your mouth is so...agghh." I gulped back a groan when the warm wetness of his tongue lapped at my entrance.

"Is this what you wanted?"

I couldn't reply. If I even opened my mouth I'd scream. Instead I arched my back into him and fisted the sheets. Finally he slipped a moistened finger inside, curling it and rubbing up against my prostate. The delicious pressure made my back arch. I squeezed my eyes closed.

"How bout this, baby? You want this?"

*****, don't stop. Feels so fucking good...More fingers," I ****** out.

He withdrew and came back with a second finger stretching me, opening me up. At the same time he leaned over to kiss my shoulders, the back of my neck. I was bucking underneath him, going wild. I couldn't believe how much I

needed him.

"God, I want you." It came out as a growl, feral and wild. I responded to it with a single cry.

"Yes! Ohhh fuck. I want it too. You inside me. Your skin. Naked." I lifted my hips. "Just take me. Now."

He let out a strangled yowl and fell to the bed beside me, giving the pillow a short savage punch.

"I can't."

We breathed silently for long drawn out seconds. I was beyond frustrated. I could still feel the imprint of his fingers inside of me. I tried to imagine what it would be like to have his body there too. I couldn't believe I had wait.

"Are you really going to listen to that?" He nodded and buried his face in my chest making another miserable frustrated noise. ******"

My whispered curse made him laugh. I had almost calmed enough that I could laugh with him. He pulled the covers over us and let me settle into his arms.

The angry squawking of the traffic outside seemed distant in our little downy cocoon. I still wanted him. Every centimeter of skin that I had pressed against him was protesting, wondering why it wasn't satisfied. I knew I had to talk to him or I'd want to start all over down the excruciating path to nowhere.

"Pascal, huh?" I finally spoke, grinning at him. It was the first thing I could think of to say that didn't have anything to do with him being inside of me. He chuckled and poked me in the side.

"Shut up. It was my dad's *********** or something. I never met the guy. Don't even think about calling me that."

"I won't. PC fits you better anyway." He squirmed closer to me, wrapping me up with his silky skin. The sensation made my breath catch in my throat. "I can't believe you promised your ****** we'd wait. This is going to be ********"

He groaned and rubbed his still half hard penis against mine. "I know. It sucks. What the hell was I supposed to do, though? It's tradition, and anyway it's not like I can say no to her. She's not just my ******, you know. She's one of the elders too."

"You think they'll be able to tell if we cheat?"

"Unfortunately, yeah. They will."

"And why exactly are we torturing ourselves? What's the point of this tradition?"

"It's supposed to make the bond between mates stronger if you claim each other on the night of the ceremony. I'm not sure I buy it. I think it's just an old fashioned way of keeping the couple away from each other."

I raised my eyebrows. "Away?" PC blushed and I smiled and brushed a kiss across his forehead. "It's not like our bond could get any stronger than what we already have." I sighed and stroked my palm down his spine. He arched into my touch again. "What's this mating ceremony like?"

"Like a wedding but way more permanent. We promise to be faithful to each other until we become part of the earth again and then we usually would, uh, bite each other on the neck, to make a mark."

The idea of biting him in front of an audience made me chuckle for some rea***. I could just see the look on my family's faces. "This whole thing oughta make my mom flip a gasket." I ********* a grin. He lifted his head suddenly, looking horrified.

"Oh lord, please tell me your ****** knows you're gay. That's the last kind of drama we need."

"She does- she has since I was sixteen. I had to tell her something after four months of acting like a total lunatic. That was the best excuse I could come up with."

"And she's cool with it?" He still looked concerned.

"Yeah. Turned out to be one of those 'no kidding' situations. She'd always known. What she's going to freak about is me getting married-or whatever it is we're calling it. She's always told me to wait until I was at least thirty." He smiled.

"Hey, you almost made it."

I rolled my eyes at him. "I'm twenty-one."

He laughed turned us over so he was sprawled on top of me.

"Close enough."

My face was ********* in little slurpy kisses that made me giggle.

"Seriously, I'm dying here. Can't we cheat a

little?"

He chuckled "We already did cheat more than a little." I made a pouty face and he grinned poking me in the side and kissing me. "You are hell on my will power, mister. And here I thought you'd be the sweet and innocent type."

"I am sweet." I gave him my most angelic expression.

"But not so innocent. The things you say when we're in bed..."

I felt my cheeks heat.

"It's not my fault you drive me to distraction. Maybe if you give me what I want than I'll stop being so loud."

The look he gave me was pure heat.

"When I finally get inside of you, I'm going to make you scream."

* * * *

It was really weird to go back to school on Monday. After having been dumped in supernatural land for the past three days, the real world seemed, well, a bit surreal to tell you the truth. We'd decided to try it with me going to school and him doing whatever it was he usually did. He said it was pretty weird to be up during the day since lycans tended to be fairly nocturnal and him even more so since he spent most of his time with the vampires. I on the other hand had to be at class every morning at ten. I could see that my schedule would have to be altered significantly second quarter. I'd always hated the huge gap between my day classes and writing seminar anyway. It would be a good excuse to switch to online or something.

I gave him a long kiss goodbye in the morning and told him to try to go back to *****- then I headed off to class, hoping that the crippling pain wouldn't start.

It seemed so far that my theory was right. I sure as hell didn't like to be away from him, and my body was uncomfortable at best, but as long as we both knew it was temporary and we were still coming back to each other it wasn't excruciating.

I sat in my first three classes twitching nervously. Even though I wasn't moving, I felt like I was being drawn back to my apartment, my bed, and PC. It was close to impossible to pay attention to my professors droning on about George Eliot and symbolism in Heart of Darkness.

Oh god, was I supposed to read that last week?

I vaguely remembered the book sitting on my pile of second hand textbooks. Seeing as though most of the other students had their copy on top of their notebooks the answer was probably yes. ****. Get it together, Miles. I hadn't come all the way to New York to fail out of school. No, you came to find PC, you just didn't know it yet. I still had to produce some kind of diploma at the end of the year so my ****** didn't have a heart attack.

Finally my morning classes were over and I trudged to the library, hoping they had a copy of the book in. If not I was going to have to run to my apartment and get it-and deal with the temptations that were there. Mmmm, PC, bed, naked. I shook my head. I needed to get Heart of Darkness at least mostly read by class the next day-which meant before work that evening. I hated being unprepared and was pretty realistic about the chance I had of getting any reading done when I was with PC.

Luckily, the library had one raggedy old copy, which I gratefully checked out. I was about to curl into my customary seat way in the back when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out and flipped it open, smiling at the message inside.

This sucks. I can't ***** without you. Come home...please. I miss you.

I could help melting a little. Damn it! I needed to get my reading done but suddenly it was the last thing on my mind.

I have to work tonight, remember? I'm at the library trying to get my reading for class done. Where are you?

I'm still at your place. I'll let you do your reading, I promise...please please please. We can cheat a little more

Damn again. A flash of lust swept through me.

I should do my class work at the library where I can concentrate...arrgh! Damn you I'm on my way.

A minute later his reply flashed. I could almost see the grin in his words.

I'm waiting for you! Hurry!

I shoved my book into my backpack and scurried out of the library into the afternoon glow. I was so intent on getting back to my apartment that I ran smack into someone at the bottom of the library stairs, nearly knocking them over.

"Jesus, Miles. Where's the fire?"

Thank god it was Lisa. I grinned sheepishly.

"Sorry. I was rushing home to get some stuff done before work."

She gave me a long contemplative look. "You seem awfully happy. What happened yesterday? You know, I was waiting for news."

"It can't be broken." I figured that short sentence said it all.

"Like ever?" The shock was apparent.

"Yeah, like ever. PC's ****** said they wouldn't even if they could because it's so rare and important. And they're going to change me, Lis. I'm going to be one of them."

"Oh, you suck." She punched me in the arm.

"What?"

"I'm stuck being boring me and in one weekend, look what happened to you!"

I laughed.

"I'll see if they can put in a petition to change you too." She looked at me serenely. "Lisa, you know I was kidding, right? You don't really want to become a-" I didn't want to say it aloud on a crowded stairwell.

"Says who?" Was her quiet retort. I chuckled and shoved at her gently.

"How's lover boy handling the news? He seemed like he really wanted it to be broken."

I sighed. "He did. He's handling it as well as can be expected, seeing as though it's not really what he wants. I mean he still wants to be with me. The bond takes care of that." I colored and she laughed out loud.

"Well then maybe I should let you go and, uh, get stuff done before work." I shoved her jokingly again.

"Knock it off! You know, I think you should meet Leila. You two have an awful lot in common."

"The vampire?" She whispered after looking around. I nodded. "I'd love to meet a vampire!"

"You already have. Zack, remember? But I'll bring you next time we are all hanging out."

"I forget about him. He seems so normal. And, yeah, you better invite me next time. I feel left out!"

"I will. You still haven't seen Noah." I smirked.

"I'm sighing already."

I laughed and headed down the stairs but waved before I jogged in the direction of my apartment.

* * * *

"Where were you, I've been waiting forever," PC groaned and pulled me into my apartment. The crappy old place looked a ton better with him in it.

"Ran into Lisa, but only for a few minutes."

I could barely get an answer out before he crushed my lips with his. My books were dropped, forgotten, and I hungrily pulled at his shirt trying to get to his skin.

"Just a little cheating, okay? Kissing and stuff."

I made a happy mumbling noise against his mouth.

"I love the way you kiss."

"Mmm, me too." He went for the hem of my shirt. It was such a relief to feel his fingertips on my skin. Even though it had only been a few hours I felt like I'd been craving his touch for a lifetime. I leaned back to pull my shirt off then go for his.

"Naked," I moaned and started fumbling at my belt and jeans.

"Mkay," He mumbled from where his mouth had attached to my neck.

"Hey, watch the neck," I laughed. "I have to go to work in a few hours."

He muttered something that sounded like the word 'scarf' and went back to his task-which was to drive me out of my mind of course.

We fell onto my bed and scrambled under the covers, bodies melding together, skin brushing, hips grinding and pushing.

"I thought about this all morning," He whispered in my ear. "I couldn't wait to feel you all warm and sexy and smooth."

I moaned.

"I think about it all the time. Class was hell

today."

He made a sound somewhere between a laugh and a groan and turned us so he was behind me, the velvety head of his cock at my entrance.

"You have no idea how much I want to just push into you. Feel your body melting around me." He rolled his hips, increasing the pressure on my hole.

"Just do it, already. Screw the rules." I reached behind me for his hair. Twining my fingers in, I arched my back and pushed hard against him. I could feel myself starting to stretch around him, open for him.

"Oh, god, baby. No, no. Not yet." He bathed my neck with a shaky breath. "I want to so bad." He pushed with his hips again, increasing the contact instead of retreating.

I writhed against him, trying to get him closer. He finally pulled back, just enough so the stretching pressure was gone. I felt like screaming.

"This is so fucking frustrating!"

All of a sudden I felt the wetness of his fingers instead, pushing in, touching and rubbing on all the right places. "Ohhh, that's better," I moaned and pushed back against his fingers, loving the feel of them inside of me. It wasn't everything I wanted, but it felt damn amazing. I reached behind me to grasp that gorgeous dick that I needed to have inside of me. He shuddered and whispered 'yeah', before wrapping his free hand around my own erection.

We stayed like that for a long time, stroking, teasing, wishing we were doing more. Finally, I felt the rush of my release building in my body, careening towards the surface.

"PC, Mmmm, I'm close."

He shuddered and pushed even harder into the tight heat of my fist. And then it was happening. I was shaking and coming and crying out that I wanted him forever. He bit into my shoulder with a hoarse shout and I felt the warmth of his release against my back.

PC withdrew his fingers from me gently and curled his arm around my waist, pulling me close. We were sticky and sweaty and trembling. I didn't care. There was nowhere else I'd rather be.

I love you.

The thought slipped so easily into my mind. ****. Keep that one to your damn self, Miles.

PC was nowhere near ready to hear it.

7.

Red

We fell into a comfortable routine. I suffered through class every day and stayed out late every night with PC, his friends, and the new addition of Lisa. She fit into the crowd perfectly, and not surprisingly her and Leila had a great time one-upping each other with dirty comments and innuendos. I had no idea what they'd done before they found each other.

PC's ****** was busy dealing with the details of my impending transformation and the subsequent mating ceremony. I tried not be nervous about getting changed into a lycan. I knew how it would happen. They explained that it was just a matter of getting a fair amount of their saliva into an open wound somewhere. Their strong DNA would take care of the rest over a few days. It didn't seem like a huge deal, but the thought of the actual process made me a little queasy.

I wasn't nervous at all about the ceremony, which was the part that probably should have freaked me out. More than anything I wanted PC to be mine and publicly claiming him as my mate seemed to be a good start. Whether he knew it or not, I was already his. Body and heart and everything that went with it.

Every day he did more to make me fall. His touch, his smile, the way he laughed at my jokes and did the cutest things like pulling out my chair and saving the crossword for us to do together-I loved it all. The best part was falling asleep in his arms every night. Sure, I was frustrated as hell and couldn't believe he was still obeying his ******'s ridiculous dictate, but the way it felt to have his skin all around me, his scent sinking into me and becoming a part of me. I didn't know how I had ever slept without him.

He'd become a permanent fixture at the bookstore. Ralph never asked me what he was to me but I supposed it was pretty obvious. I wasn't even surprised when the newest package of treats came from Ralph's wife with two of everything instead of one like before.

PC would perch every night at the end of the cash register counter or curl up in the armchair near the café and read, looking up and smiling at me every few minutes. It reminded me of the way Zack and Noah looked at each other all the time, like they were reassuring themselves that the other was still there. I didn't want to read too much into PC's looks- okay, I wanted to, but I knew I shouldn't. We were bonded, period. I knew he wanted me because of that bond but I wasn't sure there was anything more. He hadn't said anything about his feelings and I'd bitten my tongue a million times to keep from spilling mine.

It was a Saturday night. We were supposed to meet the crew at Red, a vampire bar on the Upper East Side near the park, after I was done at work. Lisa was going to meet PC and I at the shop and we were going to share a cab uptown.

I'd obviously never been anywhere like it, hadn't even been in too many regular bars since I turned twenty-one. It wasn't usually my scene. I had to admit I was damn curious though. Lisa's excited texts all day hadn't really helped.

She'd been agonizing over what to wear, speculating about the crowd, and bouncing all over the place...well at least I imagined she was. Her text messages had gotten more and more exuberant as the hours passed.

Lisa came bounding into the shop about twenty minutes before I could close up the register. I got the impression that she'd been pacing in her apartment forever and finally couldn't take it anymore. I had to admit she looked fantastic. Her hair, which was usually up in a casual ponytail, was down and she'd rolled it into loose waves that fell nearly to her waist. She was wearing some kind of dress thing that showed off curves I'd never even noticed she had.

"You look great, Lis. Looking for a vampire boyfriend?"

She did a pirouette and curtsied. "Can't hurt, right? Since you refuse to turn me into a lycan." I laughed and gave her a hug.

"Go get ready, Miles. I know how to use a cash register."

"You sure? PC should be back in a few minutes. He went home to change."

"Yeah, I'm cool. Go get ready."

I didn't have much that was dressy, but I wanted to look good. If for no other reason than to drive PC nuts all night. I had one pair of dark designer jeans that I'd found in a thrift store the year before. I brought them to wear with a black fitted long sleeved t-shirt. The dark colors made my eyes look huge and my skin pale. I hoped I'd blend in with the vampire crowd at least a little.

"Nice!" Lisa said when I came out of the bathroom. "You have an awesome ass, you know.

Bubblicious."

I blushed. "I should have never introduced you to Leila."

She laughed. "We work well together but I was like this long before we were friends."

I believed it.

The bell over the door rang but I didn't need to look up to know it was PC and not a customer. My body was filled with little happy shivers.

"Hey, babe." He came up behind me and put his arms over my shoulders. "You look hot."

I smiled and turned my head for a kiss.

"Can I put eyeliner on you, Miles?"

PC rolled his eyes.

"Why do chicks always want to put eyeliner on guys? Leila always does it to Zack."

"Cause it's hot, of course." She rolled her eyes as if to say, 'duh'.

"But why Miles and not me?"

"He's got those huge chocolatey bedroom eyes. Besides, there's no way in hell you'd say yes."

We all laughed, then she looked at me hopefully. I sighed.

"Fine. But this doesn't mean I want you asking every time we go anywhere. Tonight only."

"Yay!" She wiggled out of her seat and dug around in her purse until she drew out a black pencil. I looked closer at it.

"Hold on, does that have glitter in it?"

"No, just a little bit of a metallic shine. Don't worry; it's going to look amazing."

I shook my head and sighed. "The things I get talked into."

I sat patiently and let Lisa put the black eyeliner on me. After she was done drawing it on, she smudged it with her fingers to give me the 'next morning' look. I hoped I didn't look like an idiot. PC's eyes widened slightly. Great. I look stupid. I realized maybe I was wrong about looking stupid when he pulled me close and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"That is hot," he murmured. "I think I'll listen to girls more often."

He brushed my lips with a lingering kiss that made my nerve endings sing. It took a few seconds to remember that Lisa was standing there with an amused smile on her face.

"Don't stop on my account, boys. I'm always up

for some entertainment."

PC groaned. "We definitely shouldn't have introduced her to Leila."

"My thoughts exactly," I agreed.

* * * *

Zack and Noah were waiting for us on the sidewalk outside of the bar. They were holding hands and talking, smiling at each other. It caught me off guard every once in a while when I looked at them and realized how very beautiful they were together and so obviously in love. It made my stomach flutter to hope that someday it would be like that between PC and me.

"God I'd love to be the filling between that bread," Lisa muttered at me breaking my trance and making me sputter with laughter. Trust her to ruin a serious moment. I nodded though, ready to give her credit for calling it. PC pinched my side.

"I heard that," he joked.

"She said it. I just nodded. Besides, look at them. They're hot."

He groaned. "Miles, those two are my best friends. Can we please pretend they don't have sex?"

"You go ahead," Lisa answered before I could speak. "I'm going to keep imagining what it looks like."

PC made a strangled yelping noise and picked up the pace closing the distance between us and Zack and Noah. Lisa and I dissolved into laughter.

The vampire bar had to be the coolest place I'd ever been. It was chic and uptown and way out of my league but it didn't matter. I was with gorgeous Noah and sexy Zack and my own boyfriend who was heartbreakingly beautiful in his wild untamed way. Nearly everyone in the bar turned to look at them when they walked in. Lisa and I fit in by proxy if nothing else.

She and I got ****** at the bar and joined the table, which also included Amanda, Leila, and her boyfriend Jason.

"You look hot tonight, girl!" Leila grinned at Lisa giving her a long hug. She hugged the rest of us in turn as we settled in our spots.

"So when do I get bitten?" Lisa didn't even hesitate before asking. We all looked at each other for a few stunned seconds then burst into laughter. Of course.

"I doubt it'll be hard for us to find you a victim in that dress," Leila murmured hooking her arm through Lisa's. "I may have to taste you myself."

"I wouldn't mind either. You smell amazing," Zack added. I looked curiously at Noah, waiting for him to comment. "Oh, Noh doesn't like female *****. He was a little disappointed that I turned out to be a hetero vamp. We can't really share since we have opposite taste."

Noah laughed. "Hey, I can speak for myself! I'm not disappointed that you like female *****, exactly. It was just a surprise. It would have been hot to share with you sometime, though."

"I can share with Zack," Leila grinned. "You up for it?" She looked at Lisa.

"You mean both of you?"

"Sure. If you're going to try it, might as well go for the best possible way. Every human I've ever talked to says it's beyond incredible."

"C'mon, guys. She didn't get all hot and come out to a bar to get bitten by two people she already knows!" Amanda laughed.

"No, it's okay, actually. I trust you guys." She looked a little bit nervous. "It won't be weird, you know, since we're friends?"

"Not at all," Leila assured her.

Zack and Leila grinned at each other. I swear they were about half a heartbeat away from bumping fists.

"You sure you want to try this?"

Lisa nodded and smiled. She seemed to be getting her nerve together. "Hell yeah, let's do this!" She finally answered, her smile stretching to a grin.

I chuckled a little bit. She was fine.

Zack moved around the table until he was right next to Lisa, on the opposite side of Leila. Each one of them brushed her hair back from her face and gently ran their noses up her neck like they were enjoying the aroma of the finest wine.

"You start," Zack murmured at Leila, who dragged the tip of her tongue up Lisa's neck before delicately sinking her small pointy fangs into the side of Lisa's neck. Lisa whimpered for a moment, then arched her back and made a breathy sound of pleasure.

Zack took that moment to lean forward and lick the other side of her neck. When he bit, a flush rose on Lisa's chest and neck. She let her head fall back onto Zack's shoulder and she lifted her hand to softly cup his head. Him and Leila both caressed Lisa's stomach, her rib cage.

I was reminded ********** of a few days before when Zack told me how good a vampire bite feels to a human. I'd never seen that particular expression on her, but I knew it well. It was how I looked when PC was touching me-when I was close to coming. Lisa started trembling and breathing hard and I wondered if the same was going to happen to her in the middle of a very public place. I couldn't look away. Our entire table was silent.

Finally, Leila, then Zack lifted their heads from Lisa's neck, licking gently to stop the ***** from seeping out of the small puncture wounds they'd made. Lisa stood there silently looking wildly turned on for a few moments before she let out a shaky laugh.

"That was fucking incredible, you guys. Miles, you've gotta try it."

PC growled a little and pulled me close. "Not a chance. He's mine." Everybody looked at him silently for a tense second or two before they laughed. After all he was kidding...sort of.

I looked at my group of friends, new but so close to me already, teasing each other and laughing around the table and I smiled. PC leaned closer, drawn to my happiness, and reached out to curl his hand around my thigh. Everything seemed right. I was with the guy that I'd been born to be with, I was going to become like him and we'd be paired forever. I had more friends than I'd ever had in my life, and so much of the time I was overwhelmingly...happy--a feeling I had never become accustomed to. It seemed like everything was going perfectly.

Should've known it was too good to last.

Candaulisme – jour J

En s'installant, ma femme me dit :

*** amant me salue et me dit :

Me voir bander et mon sexe mouiller l'a énormément excitée.

Elle me dit :

- Moi aussi, tu l'as bien vu

Elle me dit encore :

Elle me demande :

- Tu peux y aller maintenant, tu as le temps.

- J'ai jouis comme tu n'as jamais su me faire jouir.

- ...
- oui
- ...
- 24
- ...
- oui d'accord
- ...

Puis il me dit :
- Cocu vient ici !

Elle me dit :

Elle me dit :
