Borrowing or Stealing????? I've been downloading and perusing threads for a long time and I am fairly good at categorizing them. I am not always certain who borrows from whom, but HSS is a common ingredient. Chattaanooga's mag cover is even copyrighted!

Each time I was going to respond, you seemed to post more! Jeez! I finally get my own feature. It's about freaking time. I'm sorry I took those captions from Piggyfish. I don't remember doing it, to be honest. They look like mine, to be honest, but I don't really remember them. Thanks for finally giving me my feature in Lists. Now I can stop.

The saying is that "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." However, if there aren't any changes at all, then I think the original creator should be mentioned, to give credit.

But I also know that I do what I call repairs. I fix typos, grammar problems, and punctuation problems. When I do that, I typically don't mention who the originator is. (For WHY I do this, read the first page of my message thread in this section.)

So my question is, should I? Should I point out whose original work it is? (If I don't respond right away in this thread, it's because I'm getting ready to leave on vacation for a couple of weeks. Sorry about that, although not very much.)

The other thing that makes me scratch my head on this topic is that it's very rare for any of us to own the rights to the pictures we work with. And to head off the inevitable question, no, it does not matter if we've added to it. That doesn't change the legal status of it.

But let me go back to the original thing. Does it matter if HSS posts them at her own place? (My opinion is that it doesn't matter. Credit should be given if there aren't any changes.)

And sometimes if I see a picture I like, such as in the "How to get noticed" operated by DavesGFdates, I post something in there to tell him I'm planning to use an image or two. That's mainly to compliment him on the fine pictures he posts. He's not a capper, at least that I know of -- his thread is in the Interracial section.

Any other thoughts on the topic?

I think that we all should give credit if we re-post caps, even with minor changes. As for using photos without credit, I think that is OK, since the caption is a separate creative work.

BTW, DavesGFDates does do captions, I think, but in a different forum.

Oh, Christine, you do repairs and it is well known. HSS - well, I am just not a fan and some of this is just evil fun for me, I admit....I haven't the foggiest whose work is who in some cases. Anyway, it's all like washing the dirty dishes while the house is burning down.

This place is getting a bit on the scary side! I hope we don't lose more long time members over the sents-er-ship issue........

You know, it's interesting... I personally would be (and have been) embarrassed when I make a typo. Don't ask me why, but I am. And so when I do a repair, I feel like the original poster wouldn't want to have his/her name mentioned.

I guess I'm projecting my feelings onto them.

Okay, one more post in my thread, and then I'm out of here for vacation. I'll be able to occasionally read messages using my cell phone, but I can't post any pictures from it.
