Regarding attempting to start a car after it's been in a flood....First remove all the spark plugs and turn the engine over on the starter to remove as much water from the cylinders as possible. You might need to check the carb (if it has one - don't know how old this car is!) for water and get it cleaned out. Replace the water soaked air filter also. If needs be change the engine oil as it could well be contaminated with water and running it with water in the oil will surely fuck the motor up. Refit the spark plugs and fire it up - hopefully! There's probably water still trapped in the car heater mechanism so it will take quite a while to dry out, but once it's running the process will be speeded up. Good luck!!

I think the starter may be toast. When I've hooked it up to a jump starter box, I can't get the engine to turn over. Either that or the engine may be a lost cause.

I thought perhaps that there might be a fuse for the starter that had blown, but the cables for the starter box get very warm, so I know there's current flowing when I turn the key to the Start position.

The engine oil looks fine. I pulled the dipstick very early on, and it looks normal. I didn't bother checking the transmission fluid.

Update on my car situation: On Saturday, I bought a car at CarMax. It's a 2010 Acura RDX, replacing the 2008 RDX that I had. I'm planning to take it to a mechanic tomorrow (Monday) to get it checked out. If for some reason it fails that test, it can go back to them, in accordance with the contract.

I'm going to ask the insurance company for a little more salvage value on mine, but they don't move on that, I'll take the deal anyway. I'm asking for more because of the visit from an adjuster, who said that could happen, depending on the car's condition. I was able to get the dashboard powered up to show him, which shows the low mileage on the car.

Anyhow, that's the news from here.

The shop said the new car is a good one, so that's good news.
