We're hanging in there. Things are starting to return to normal. The humans and the ani mals here at our house are safe, other than the mental fatigue that these things cause.

For now, we're down to one car. I feel fortunate when I think of the people who have lost everything.

The biggest frustration right now is that we can't locate the car that was flooded. It was towed, but we can't find out to where. The insurance company told us one place, but that one says they don't have it.

I'm less concerned about the car than recovering some personal items from it, including a house key.

Linda, the car has turned up. Seems that the county (not the city) had it towed. We have it back now, including that house key. That saves having to change the door locks, which I had been seriously considering.

Now we're waiting for an adjuster to take a look at the vehicle. I'm hopeful that it will be repaired, since I really like it, and the water only got to partway up the doors. Too soon to tell, though. Or possibly, there may be an opportunity if it's totaled, to buy it back for the salvage value and then have only the repairs done that we feel like. We'll see what happens.

The latest is that it looks like Hurricane Irma is heading for Florida.

Update on my car situation:

The insurance company has made what I consider to be a fair offer. They're sending a check, with an additional amount to follow when (if?) I turn over the car and the title. There was even a comment in a voice message about waiving the deductible on my comprehensive coverage, something to do with the type of policy it is.

I'm debating getting ownership back from them for that salvage value. (At least I assume that's what that additional amount is for.) I've been trying to get the car dried out, leaving the doors open during the daytime. I haven't tried to restart it yet, as I want to get it as dry as possible before that. The water level came up to about a foot or so below the windows, so there's reason to think that quite a bit of the electronics didn't get wet.

I think it's too soon to tell how that might come out. And as a friend pointed out last night, the title that gets reissued is a different one, and marked to show what happened. Not that I'm concerned about it, because I tend to drive my cars until the wheels almost fall off of them.

I'm open to any and all discussion about the desirability and challenges regarding rehabilitating a flooded car.

The insurance company confirmed that the second payment is for the salvage value of the car. They said I can wait a while to determine if I want to keep the car.

I still haven't tried to restart it yet, as there's still some moisture in the passenger compartment. Every day I go out to open up the doors on it, and there's a light mist that has condensed on the inside of the windows.

In the meantime, enjoy some more caps.
