Kenneth, thank you for the compliments! I really appreciate them. I'll try to keep up the posting, although it's not accidental that I usually only post four at a time. I decided a while back that holding myself to that number would make it easier to keep going for longer.
I also completely agree that Don Jetman has THE best caps on this site. And that HSS is _really_ good at finding very sexy pictures.
There are a couple of people you mentioned whom I have not seen before, and so I will go looking for the messages they've posted.
Obviously HSS and I would both benefit from an extended period of collaboration. She picks the images, and I put caps to them. (Yesss!)

kenneth998: I think it is no accident that she opened a caption repair shop. I meant to reply to this particular item earlier, Kenneth. I worked for more than a decade in a job where I wrote procedures and documentation. While I was working for that company, I realized that I had an eye for detail, that I could proofread materials easily. I don't know why, it's apparently just something I have an aptitude for. Typos leap off the page at me. Sometimes it's a blessing, occasionally it's a curse. In any case, it's not something I expect to go away any time soon. On a different aspect, those who know me well enough know that I consider myself transgendered. When I put my mind to it, I can pass reasonably well in public as female, and blending in is something that I attach a lot of value to. In addition to trying hard to dress appropriately for the occasion, I also have studied women's speech patterns a lot. Women sometimes make different word choices than men do, as well as making different uses of inflection and pitch. Some of the captions I write have a woman as the speaker, and I try to use speech patterns that are things I would expect a woman to say. Sometimes that means saying "pussy" instead of "the 'c' word." Or "boobs" instead of "tits." Things like that. xoxoxo Christine

My two-cents, if you don't mind. I think "good" (and in the general sense, quality) is being defined by different people in different ways. Caps are an amalgam of image and story, but in a unique abbreviated format - one image, and a few words to embellish it. We can examine and criticize both elements separately, but it's the mating that makes the cap. Some elements are easy to pin down, and some are more a matter of art.
I agree that quality begins with simple basics - grammar and spelling come to mind. For me, it's jarring to see "your" and "you're" confused, or "its" and "it's", or "there" and "their". I do a lot of technical writing, and like Christine, that stuff just, well, bothers me. I'm not saying I never make mistakes, but I'm always conscious of the mechanics of writing.
There are also basics of imagery - is it a "quality" pic? Simple basics are resolution, color, size, and cropping. Does the pic say what you mean to say, and in a way your audience can get your message? I spend a lot of time on this using image software to try to meet my demanding criteria. A beautiful image is the foundation of a good cap. It delivers half of the punch.
Much of the rest is "art" - how the text fits the pic, what it says, and how it says it. This is what sets everyone apart in their art. I try to hear the words as they might be said, with consideration of who is saying them. As Christine mentions, women rarely use "cunt" or "tits". L consistently uses "boobs", and rarely "pussy", so I imagine how she does, or would say the words in the cap. In harder caps, with third permister narration, sometimes the nastier the better. Does the text flow - the meter, phrase length, and word choice all work together to give a sense of authentic erotic involvement. Is the dialogue wooden, or lifelike? Does it really sound like casual conversation? It's hard to tell anyone how to do this - it's the art of writing coming into play.
Image manipulation is much the same. Does the message beg for high or low contrast? More or less grain? Muted or bright colors? A tight or more spacious crop? No absolute rules here - it's a permisteral decision - it's art. Practice helps, as does some experience in graphic arts or photography. Some of the best imaging software can be challenging, but can turn a lifeless pic into a thing of stunning beauty.
But most importantly, I think the theme here is deeply permisteral. Aside from the most glaring problems, I prefer not to rate an artist by his subject matter alone. There are threads here specializing in sub-categories that don't push my buttons, and some that are, frankly, repellent. But even in these, I find a gem now and then - an artist that gets it right and drills the message home. We must be careful not to thoughtlessly cast stones at other artists permisteral creations - they are a part of who the artist is, and harsh words an insult to his most permisteral thoughts and sexual preferences.
Finally, I'm becoming a bit uncomfortable with the superlatives attached to my own work. I'm forever grateful for the feedback and glad that others enjoy my caps, but there are others here who work very hard to create many new caps every day, people who put their guts into the work, and spend untold hours creating snippets of their imagination for all to enjoy. I love that I've found others here whose tastes match my own, and hope you'll still comment and participate on my thread. I suppose my message to other cappers here is that I understand that words like "best" are conditional, and hope they understand that as well.

Well, it is great to hear the perspective of Christine and Don Jetman, two of the most obviously intelligent and creative people here, Interesting to hear your perspectives and I always enjoy your work, Don (and yours too, Christine!) As far as I am concerned, I think captioners should have to apprentiice beneath people like Don or Christine and gain some sort of certification before flooding the world with caps. (Ok, I'm a tough bastard) You two are among the very, very best. At least house sissy has the good sense to "study", as it were, under Christine. Her stuff has improved since she came to the Repair Shop. I imagine other artists would benefit under such an arrangement as well.
Anyway, thank you both so much for what you do. You have provided me with much enjoyment!

Don Jetman: there are others here who work very hard to create many new caps every day, people who put their guts into the work, and spend untold hours creating snippets of their imagination for all to enjoy. Don, that's very well said. I enjoy all of them, although some more than others. You also put into words something I was thinking, which is the use of grammar and spelling. There are certain individuals whose work I enjoy, but who I know consistently don't use the word "their." It's always jarring for me. It's that curse I mentioned. What stands out about your work is especially the quality of the graphics, which you and I have discussed in more detail elsewhere. Combining that with good "voice" and a lack of typos is especially effective. xoxoxo Christine

Ah, some pictures for today! Hope you're enjoying the holiday today, if you're in the US. My office is closed, but I'm going to do some work anyway, because I'm so far behind. (sigh) xoxoxo Christine Not Interested

It's that curse I mentioned I can't stand the use of the "dominate" when "dominant" is prescribed, (Ex: He had a very "dominate" permisterality). Good God! Christine, "Not Interested" and "I Already Told Him" are just wonderful. So are the other two. You are greatly appreciated!
