Sometimes members contact me about saving pictures so I am putting the information about how I do it here.

The two types of pictures that I see are Forum pictures and Profile pictures. This message is for Forum pictures.

The instructions are on these 3 photos. If anyone feels I left anything out, or it's unclear, please PM me and I'll work on it.

paco2244 sends this shortcut for MS Windows Explorer only: You can too right click on the little pic and use "save the target as". It's faster. (I like to look at the picture full size before saving because I choose NOT to save about 1/3 of the time and this prevents me from saving pictures that I don't want.)

Thanks.

The other type is the Profile picture.

(Thanks to PicJohnmister for this tip.)
If you are using Mozilla Firefox, it is easier for you. Right-click in a thumbnail and chose Copy Image Location, not Copy Link Location in his post below. Paste that into your browser URL section. Remove the _th and press the Enter key. It becomes a JPG ready to save.

If you are using MS Windows Explorer, these are harder to save because, no matter which button you click, or menu choice you use, the result is a !pix file that had no usable data.

So you have to resort to the Print Screen key and saving the file in a graphics program. I limit myself to only great pictures because it's so much trouble, especially if the picture doesn't fit on the screen.

At the end, I will give details and a link to the program that I use. (I have NO stake in the company at all.) It's just the simplest, most versitile program that I've ever used.

The instructions on these 2 photos are for pictures which fit entirely on the screen.

This set of pictures is for saving Profile pictures which are larger than the screen, but all the important stuff can be shown on the screen by using the slider bar.

The last set of pictures is for saving a picture in parts and putting it together. I really have to LOVE a 4-part picture to do all this work. But there have been times...

Sometimes, you can change your monitor's resolution to show the pictures and save it in one step.

You cannot use Vue Print (below) to do this, but a masochist can use Windows Piant.

If anyone knows an easier way, please let me know. I have so skip a lot of good pictures because it would be too much work to save them.

Again, if anyone feels I left anything out, or it's unclear, please PM me and I'll work on it.

Thanks.

The program that I use all the time is VuePrint.

The program will not retouch photos, and it can't eliminate red eye. The controls work on the photo as a whole. Need it a little lighter, tap the + key. The - (minus) key darkens it. Is contrast a problem? Use the / and * keys. Do you want to crop the photo? No menu needed-just hightlight the area and it's done. Are you using Print Screen to save pictures? In PhotoShop, you have to open a new document and size it. Here, just use the Edit/Paste menu. Or, easier still, Control -V will do it.

Does the picture need resizing? Tap the Z and enter the height or width. Is she cute, but a little chubby? Uncheck the "Preserve Aspect Ratio", work with the height and width and she lost a little weight. (Truth in advertising: Check my avatar; I usually feed her a couple of digital milkshakes.)

There are more things this will do. Do you want to scroll through a folder full of pictures, but your good hand is busy? Never fear; just tap the space bar. Set up a slide show and you won't need to even think about the space bar. Do you want to see multiple pictures on the screen? Sometimes I go through a folder 6 pix at a time. Just tap the T key.

Am I a fan of this program? You bet. It doesn't pretend to be PhotoShop, but it doesn't need to be. Here is some of the information on the web site:

Hamrick Software was founded in Phoenix, Arizona in 1991 by Ed Hamrick. Our first product was VuePrint, an easy to use image viewer for Windows that for many years was the recommended image viewer for AOL, with more than 100,000 users.

The cost is $30.00 USD.

The link is The hyperlink is visible to registered members only!.

Best of all, you can download the program for free. It displays dollar signs on the photos until you pay for it, but you can see how it works. Looking at your photos won't put the $ signs on, only saving them. But the signs will be displayed on all the photos.

Good luck.
