Barack Obama is 'mixed race' not black.............

The media define Barack Obama as black but they would.. First black president is better story than mixed race.. He is as much black as he is white.. Am I wrong ?

Technically he's mixed race but I don't think American society as a whole recognises that. You're either black or white. That has it's routes in the bad old days when anyone with even a small drop of black red was considered 'tainted' and effectively outcast. The civil rights movement reclaimed that so any permister with black ancestry was a brother.

Hopefully the election of Barack Obama signals that america is becoming more comfortable with it's interacial/multi-racial identity and if a mixed race candidate comes along in the future his or her race will be far less of an issue.

I cant believe you just figured this out now........yes, white ma, black pa....man abondended them when he was a baby, so he was raised by his white lady, and white grandparents....hence born black, socialised white......but as everyone said, the color of his skin has meant he has suffered all the indingnities blacks have....

Tiger Woods is also mixed race...1/2 black,, 1/2 Thai....

Anyway....the funny thing is that now Clinton is State Seretary....which is also kind of secretary....sort of like Mona.....more sucking now in Oral Office ??? Maybe Hillary finaly see the joy of such set-up?

Than you would have to exclude half of the African American population that consider themselves black. Much of the blacks population in this country is mixed with native american asian and latino or white. matd1973 your thread is going to spark a racial flame war we have a lot of white nationalist that hate black very much especially liberal Barack Obama on this forum if your a racist why would they visit the interracial thread just makes no sense to me. I heard he said he was actually brown, not black. Indeed, he's brown (light brown, I'd say). Black fundamentalists say he's 'black'. To them, anybody with some black ancestor down to the tenth generation is 'black' (now, that black identity has become an important issue - when it wasn't, many denied being black when they were mixed race). However, he's got an arab name! That's the most unexpected, to me.

His man was from Kenya and his name is Muslim, not "Arab." The Muslim world spreads well beyond the Arabic world.

Also, remember that "we" (white America) had laws until very recently in which WE defined anyone who was part-black (I believe up to 1/16 or at least 1/8) as black...the old term "octaroon" referred to 1/8 black. So don't rail against black fundamentalists for calling part-blacks black, since they just took the cue from "us."
